With the acquisition of Broward Casting Foundry, Jef-Scot Metal Industries has been producing castings for our Sani Kan product. Sani Kan was the first proprietary product launched by Broward Casting.
Sani Kan has been a preferred method of trash and garbage concealment for more than 60 years. Sani Kan was the brainchild of Ronald Gatto, Sr who built one for himself to solve the garbage odor and animal intrusion at his home. In 1958 Ron had a simple yet ingenious goal: to keep animals out of his trash, eliminate the odors that drew them in, and prevent high winds from blowing over his trash can. His original homemade prototype quickly won over friends and family. By 1959, Ron had developed detailed drawings for the aluminum castings that would form the core operating components of the Sani Kan underground trash storage receptacle. That same year, he rented space in the old Dania Foundry and began producing his invention in the evenings. The concept resonated so deeply with Ron's father-in-law that, in 1962, he provided the funding to establish Broward Casting Foundry, turning the vision into a business.
Now there are approximately 100,000 units being utilized in North America and the Caribbean. The mission today remains the same as it was in the beginning.
Born from the need to protect garbage and trash from wildlife and maintain clean and attractive properties. It can also resist high winds that make conventional garbage cans a dangerous projectile or at the least unable to contain the trash they are holding. Sani Kan combines practical design with rugged construction to provide a durable, maintenance free waste storage solution that protects homes, parks, marinas, golf courses, and other public spaces helping to create a clean environment and an attractive appearance.
The Sani Kan product is made in the USA near where it began in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The concrete shell is molded with an integrated aluminum casting that then serves to anchor the lid assembly. Each unit is produced with the commitment to using the best materials including high grade alloy cast aluminum, a galvanized trash container, a concrete shell, and stainless steel fasteners.
Accidents can happen and parts can become damaged or just need replacement. Each component part is available for purchase individually or as a full assembly. In most cases, they are in stock and ready for shipment.
Jef-Scot Metal Industries is proud to now be part of the Sani Kan success story.
