Fifty-seven years ago today, Apollo 11 landed on the moon.

It's still one of the boldest engineering efforts ever pulled off. The hardware had to work the first time, in the least forgiving place imaginable, with no chance to go back and fix it.

What if a firearm simply wouldn't fire for anyone but its owner?

That's the product Lodestar Technology set out to build: a personally authenticated firearm on a platform people already know and trust. Fingerprint, keypad or app unlocks it. Without authentication? It stays locked.

Our firmware team is growing! Welcome, Andy Belle-Isle, our newest Firmware and Systems Software Engineer. 👋

Andy comes to us from Square, where he was the lead NFC firmware engineer for tap-to-pay products processing more than $250 billion in annual transactions. He took Square Handheld's payment firmware from first design through global release, and before that built low-power sensor firmware for Bose Frames.

He'll be developing the firmware and systems software that keep our rugged products running in the field, from enterprise-grade distributed processing systems to RTOS-level embedded work.

Some days we're bent over the bench; other days we're craning our necks to the sky!

We recently spent time with Sion Power Corporation to fly their Freefly Astro Max for a promo shoot. It's a serious piece of kit, but the real star is Sion's Licerion Strike battery. We helped design a lithium-metal pack built for drones with around 140% more energy density than conventional lithium-ion. That means longer flights or heavier payloads from the same battery weight, which is exactly what counts when the mission is out in the field.
