How can the hot AZ sun affect your vehicle? One area of concern is the cooling system which keeps your engine within normal operating temperature. Ambient temps over 110°F push your cooling system to run hotter and increases pressure during thermal expansion. Over time, if the system can’t maintain proper pressure—or if the radiator/overflow cap or venting system isn’t holding correctly—coolant can be forced into the overflow/vent path, and you may see the reservoir level drop without a noticeable driveway puddle. If your coolant is old, deposits and corrosion can further reduce heat-transfer efficiency, which can worsen overheating risk.
🧪 Brittle Plastic & Rubber: Arizona heat bakes rubber hoses and plastic radiator tanks until they weaken. Under pressure, small seepage can leave only minor residue near hose connections, plastic seams, or the filler neck rather than a big leak you can easily spot.
💡 Arizona Pro-Tip: NEVER open the radiator or reservoir cap on a hot engine—dropping system pressure instantly can cause superheated fluid to boil over and burn you. Always check levels at the clear plastic reservoir when the engine is completely cold (like overnight). If you spot white, chalky residue near hose clamps, plastic seams, or the filler neck, that can indicate dried coolant from a small leak or cap/overflow seep.
