Transconomy recently participated in the National Road Research Alliance (NRRA) Pavement Distress Rodeo held at the MnROAD site in Albertville, Minnesota. The rodeo aims to showcase how modern technologies can improve or completely replace traditional manual distress surveys.

Team Transconomy conducted multiple runs on the MnROAD test track, employing a range of capture methods, including still photos using our iPhone-based Collector app and off-the-shelf video setups. The next steps involve manual ratings and the utilization of our proprietary AI models to analyze these images, generating MnROAD-specific pavement distress indices based on the Long Term Pavement Performance (LTPP) methodology. These results will be compared with other technologies like LiDAR, drones, video, imagery, 3D laser systems, and additional AI models.

While NRRA’s scoring rubric won't determine the ultimate best collection and processing method, it will provide valuable insights for future users to select the most suitable techniques for their specific needs.

We are excited to be a part of this study and eagerly anticipate the results.

As the APWA PWX conference ends in San Diego, we are reflecting on the incredible insights, connections, and innovations shared. We are excited to announce that Transconomy has recently delivered a complete asset inventory and road condition survey project for a suburban Maryland city. As part of the project, we extracted more than 7200 traffic signs, 22,500+ point assets, and 430 miles+ of line assets. This project included a Pavement Condition Ranking (PCR) on a custom scale of 1 to 5, as defined by the city for 400 lane miles of pavement.

As part of our deliverables, we provided the inventories in multiple file formats such as CSV, Geodatabase, and ESRI-compatible shapefile. A comprehensive analytics report that included visualization of the asset statistics, providing an intuitive understanding of the inventory results, was also delivered as part of the project.

This project utilized the complete Transconomy ecosystem. Our smartphone app, Transconomy Collector, collected and uploaded roadway images directly to the cloud-based Transconomy Hub. The AI-powered Transconomy Hub extracted roadway assets from the collected images and created the required inventories. These inventories were passed through a rigorous quality control mechanism to ensure the minimization of errors. Finally, the collected data was visualized on color-coded GIS maps in the Transconomy Viewer.

Transconomy is proud to be selected as one of the finalists for the International Road Federation (IRF) Start-up Label, 2022 Edition.

The IRF Startup Label is an international competition whose aim is to identify cutting-edge solutions that promote IRF’s primary goals. Each application was examined by a pool of IRF experts to gauge the environmental and social impacts of the innovation, the level of innovation and the company’s capacity to protect it, market traction, its viability and scalability, and founders’ profiles. From a pool of dozens of start-ups, six were selected to make their pitch at the 4th International Conference for Sustainable Mobility and IRF Annual Conference 2022 in Morocco. Two finalists will be selected to receive the prestigious IRF Start-up Label and receive support including mentoring, exposure, and marketing expertise.

Ammar Waqar, the Chief Technical Officer of Transconomy will make the pitch for Transconomy and will describe the features, benefits, and future market vision for the suite of tools that comprise the product.
