Job Title: Yard Manager (Underground Construction / Jack & Bore)
Location: 3520 Roxbury Road | Charles City, VA 23030
Job Type: Full-Time
Job Summary:
We are a growing underground construction company specializing in jack and bore operations. We are seeking a dependable and organized Yard Manager to oversee daily yard operations, manage equipment and materials, and support our field crews. This role requires hands-on experience operating heavy equipment, including loaders, to safely unload and move materials and trucks within the yard.
Key Responsibilities:
-Manage day-to-day yard operations, ensuring organization, cleanliness, and efficiency
-Operate a loader to unload deliveries, move materials, and assist with loading trucks for job sites
-Coordinate staging, loading, and unloading of materials and equipment for jack & bore projects
-Track and maintain inventory of casing, pipe, tooling, and job materials
-Inspect equipment (augers, boring machines, loaders excavators, etc.) and report maintenance needs
-Coordinate deliveries and pickups with drivers, vendors, and field supervisors
-Ensure all equipment and materials are job-ready and properly staged
-Enforce safety procedures and maintain compliance with company and OSHA standards
-Maintain accurate logs, records, and yard documentation
Qualifications:
-Experience in construction, underground utilities, or heavy civil work (jack & bore experience preferred)
-Proven ability to operate a loader for loading/unloading materials and trucks
-Experience operating other heavy equipment (forklift, skid steer, excavator) is a plus
-Strong organizational and leadership skills
-Basic computer skills for inventory tracking and communication
-Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate with crews and management
Physical Requirements:
-Ability to lift 50+ lbs regularly
-Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
-Able to stand, walk, and move around the yard for extended periods
