Small and in charge here 😂

As you can see, I’ve been a project managing master from birth. I recently dug up this photo of me and my brother Randall building this cabin in the woods at my parent’s farm in Travelers Rest, SC. ⁣

I mentioned a bit about my background in an earlier post, but I spent my childhood building things all over my parent’s farm. This cabin, which is still standing, was a project that my dad wanted to do with me and Randall and it created wonderful memories for all of us. ⁣

As I got older I built things on my own, including a tree house that had a cantilevered porch that floated above a creek (yes, somehow it worked!). ⁣

I’m upgraded my quality of work, and by this photo I guess I can say I had 30 years of experience under my belt 😆⁣

📸 We have teased this beautiful South Carolina farm timber framed addition the last few days, and are now ready to showcase the final shots!

Hygge Construction, LLC is supremely proud of this addition. As detailed in earlier posts, Owner and Builder Thomas Coleman and his team were chartered by their clients to build a timber framed addition to their 200-year-old South Carolina farm house.

The clients had wanted to expand their kitchen into a more open floor plan that would allow them to have a space where they could entertain friends and family, relax with coffee and a newspaper in the mornings, and most importantly, host musician friends in an acoustically perfect gathering space.

The final product is this gorgeous 500 square-foot timber framed room, complete with specialized stone masonry on the fireplace and flooring, and windows allowing for an abundance of natural lighting and access to views of the property's lush natural surroundings.

🏠 Earlier this week we began telling you the story of this South Carolina home addition project Hygge Construction, LLC completed a few years ago as a final capstone project for the American College of the Building Arts.⁣

The home owners had the dream of adding a sitting room off of their 200-year-old farm house. They wanted the room to be a place where family and friends would want to gather to spend time creating memories. One of the core components that was important to the home owners was to ensure that the room would have clear acoustics for when they would host musician friends, of which the family did often.⁣

📸 Stay tuned for photos of the final project TOMORROW, but in the meantime, we love showcasing the project in flight. Timber framing is a specialized process, that can require perfectly angled pre-cut timber and design work in order to ensure the pieces can “lock” in place when constructed. You can see the team in action as they began assembly of the timber peices that had been pre-constructed in a studio, prior to being assembled on the farm property.⁣

Timber framing is a true art form, one of which Hygge Construction proudly calls one of our expertises.⁣

👋 Meet Thomas Coleman, the owner of Hygge Construction, LLC.⁣

Since I was a kid, I’ve always loved building things. I grew up on a farm in the South Carolina Upstate, and from a young age would gather leftover wood and tinker with building things around the house. From tree houses in the woods behind my parent’s house, to chicken coops in the farmyard, I knew at a young age that building was my calling.⁣

And not only was it my calling, it was in my blood. My great grandfather was a farmer and builder, who constructed the Greek revival home that I grew up in.⁣

With over a decade of experience in new builds and renovations, I’m living the dream as a master carpenter with expertise in building new homes and restoring many of Charleston’s historic structures.⁣

And with Hygge Construction, I hope to bring my passion and expertise to your next home project.⁣

🔨We are excited to showcase our rustic, vaulted ceiling timber frame addition next week. But before we drop those beautiful pics here, we wanted to tell you more about that home addition project. ⁣

Hygge Owner and Builder Thomas Coleman built this room as part of his capstone project his final year at the American College of the Building Arts. The vision for this room was to be a cozy, beautiful space to soak in the natural surroundings of this 200-year-old farm house, host parties, and most importantly, allow for proper acoustics for live music, since the own owners hosted musicians on a regular basis.⁣

The vault in the center of the room serves as the main focal point as well as a mechanism that produces perfect acoustics throughout the space. These photos showcase the installation process for the addition. Stay tuned for the finish project ⁣
