Drs. Andrew Moore and Anna Kirkland recently shared our Just Say Know program with students at West Ashley Hall School. This presentation brings real science into the conversation, helping youth understand how substances like alcohol, cannabis, opioids, and va**ng impact the developing brain and body. Dr. Moore gave over 10+ presentations in just one day!

This week, our team is heading to James Island Charter High School to participate in their Mental Health Walk and Connection Events.

We hope to see you at an event soon!

Drs. Perica, Kirkland, Squeglia, Mewton (The Matilda Centre), and other collaborators recently published a new paper titled "Identifying Impulsivity and Substance use Measures in Neuroimaging Datasets: a Scoping Review and Searchable Dataset Repository for Researchers".

This was an invited review for a special issue of Current Addiction Reports. In this scoping review, they identified 35 open-access neuroimaging datasets (ranging from 200โ€“500,000 participants) that contain measures of impulsivity, substance use, and neuroimaging.

The team also compiled them into an interactive Shiny app so that other researchers can easily find them: https://gaylen-fronk.shinyapps.io/shiny_sud_impulsivity/. They discuss the ongoing issues in data sharing practices and suggest possible solutions for future data sharing.

Weโ€™re proud to celebrate Katie, who presented a research poster at the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) Annual Meeting in Tampa, Florida. During the conference, Katie connected with leading surgeons, panelists, and innovators advancing endoscopic, metabolic, and foregut surgery.

This project was made possible through the efforts of a collaborative team, with special thanks to the Department of Foregut and Metabolic Surgery, Dr. Bryant, Dr. Frederick, and our own Dr. Squeglia.

Congratulations, Katie, on this outstanding accomplishment!

Drs. Kirkland and Squeglia recently collaborated with colleagues in the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Department of Neuroscience on a basic science project focused on cannabis use disorder.

This project was a great example of the translational research being done at MUSC, where preclinical research can inform pathways for new medication development for humans!
