Looking back on ConnexFM 2026 makes us remember that the relationship building process goes on beyond the 3-4 days we were together.

Events like these are a reminder that operational efficiency is constantly evolving via technology and industry innovations — and collaboration across the industry is what drives meaningful progress forward.

From building performance strategies to long-term operational improvements, it was great sharing ideas with professionals focused on creating smarter, more efficient facilities.

This quick flashback captures some of those moments as we are continuing the conversations that were sparked at the National Conference.

Real operational savings happen when multiple efficiency strategies work together.

HVAC and lighting can account for a significant portion of commercial building energy usage. When paired with smart controls, scheduling optimization, and utility incentive programs, the results become even more impactful. That’s why building efficiency should be approached strategically — not as isolated projects, but as layered operational improvements designed to maximize performance and ROI. The goal isn’t just reducing energy usage. It’s creating smarter, more efficient buildings that perform better long term.

Instead of relying only on massive utility-scale battery projects, some Virginia utilities are deploying smaller, targeted battery systems that can be built faster, sited more easily, and still deliver meaningful operational savings.

According to Canary Media, a collection of 5 MW battery systems is projected to help local utilities save nearly $100 million over the projects’ lifespan.

What stands out most is the strategy behind it:
✔️ Faster implementation
✔️ Lower infrastructure complexity
✔️ Improved grid flexibility
✔️ Better alignment with local operational needs

As energy demand continues to rise, especially alongside data center growth, distributed energy resources and localized storage solutions will likely play a much larger role in grid reliability and affordability moving forward.

Energy waste impacts more than utility bills - it affects equipment performance, shortens useful lifespan, and the overall building efficiency strategy.

Many inefficiencies go unnoticed because buildings need to be audited. Inefficiencies are caused because a scheduling strategy has not been implemented, aging systems, and skipping routine maintenance. Reducing waste starts with understanding how building equipment is performing and how they operate around the clock.

HVAC and lighting systems are the of the largest drivers of energy usage in commercial buildings.
Even small improvements in fixture upgrades, scheduling, controls, and equipment maintenance can have a major impact on operational costs and building efficiency.

Optimizing HVAC and lighting should be proactive and building operators should have a long-term operational strategy in place.

A forensic utility audit gives you the security to know you are being billed correctly – because long term losses from on bill errors can eat away at bottom lines.

A successful audit allows us a way to evaluate your energy data. We can explore benchmarking, uncover rebate opportunities, and eliminate unnecessary OPEX. Understanding where energy is being wasted is often the first step toward reducing costs.

Many building owners assume efficiency upgrades require long payback periods. In reality, operational improvements and utility incentives can create ROI much faster than expected.

Efficiency projects should reduce waste, improve performance, and create long-term savings - not just short-term upgrades.

Across the country, Hospitality and Senior Living operators are feeling the pressure of rising utility bills. Energy costs continue to climb, and many properties are being forced to balance cost control with guest comfort and resident care.

The good news: real relief is within reach.

At Commercial Green Solutions, we help properties uncover savings through rebates, incentives, and energy-saving measures that can reduce operating costs significantly. And now, we are taking that impact even further.

Reducing energy use does more than lower your bill this month.
It can also reduce future demand and capacity charges.

That means the benefits stack up:
✔ Lower bills today
✔ Lower usage over time
✔ Lower capacity charges down the road

A true double whammy.

The smartest energy strategy does not just solve today’s problem. It helps protect your bottom line long-term.
