Glenn Industrial Group Completes Underwater Installation of Emergency Release Valve at Lake Lure

Lake Lure, NC – Glenn Industrial Group has successfully completed the underwater installation of a critical 72-inch emergency release valve and trash rack at Lake Lure, North Carolina, as part of the town’s dam safety upgrade.

As a subcontractor to Morgan Corp, Glenn Industrial Group performed inspections and installed the valve and trash rack 100 feet below the water’s surface, This key component will allow the lake to be lowered, enhancing flood control and enabling future maintenance.

Morgan Corp served as the prime contractor. Based in South Carolina, Morgan Corp is a leading heavy civil construction firm. Schnabel Engineering, based in North Carolina, provided the design and engineering oversight.

Glenn Industrial Group has taken delivery of its second Seamor Steelhead ROV, further enhancing our underwater inspection and intervention capabilities. The Seamor Steelhead ROV is a compact, versatile remotely operated vehicle designed for high-performance underwater operations, including inspections, surveys, and maintenance tasks in challenging environments. GLENN has also incorporated a multibeam sonar system on the ROV for navigation and imaging. This latest addition brings our fleet of ROVs to 18, reinforcing our commitment to delivering efficient and reliable underwater solutions.

Glenn Industrial Group is undertaking a turnkey project to install a stop log system on the downstream side of a spillway gate at a hydroelectric plant in the southeastern United States. The stop log system is designed to equalize pressure on the spillway gate, enabling the safe removal of a caisson lodged against it. Once removed, the caisson will be repaired and reinstalled, and necessary repairs will be performed on the spillway gate.

Glenn Industrial Group has integrated a high-pressure washing system into its fleet of ROVs. This system provides precise control during cleaning operations, significantly reducing the need to expose divers to hazardous conditions.

Additionally, the system allows the client to operate in local control, eliminating the necessity for a full Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedure, thereby enhancing safety and operational efficiency.

Glenn Industrial Group Provides Sonar Images Confirming Structural Integrity of Spillway Gate at U.S. Hydroelectric Dam

Glenn Industrial Group recently provided detailed sonar imaging to assess a dislodged caisson at a spillway gate within a U.S. hydroelectric dam. The high-resolution images confirmed that neither the caisson nor the surrounding structure sustained any major damage underwater. Due to leakage and other potential hazards, divers and remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) were unable to safely perform the assessment. Glenn Industrial Group’s advanced sonar technology enabled a thorough, non-invasive evaluation, ensuring the safety and integrity of the facility without requiring physical intervention.

Glenn Industrial Group divers began the installation and anchoring of an 11’ x 10’ 6” precast gate portal door on the upstream face of a hydroelectric dam located in North Carolina. In addition to the precast concrete portal, GLENN will be installing a steel bulkhead and mounting a trash rack system over the assembly.

The high-altitude diving work is being performed at depths of -110’ using Sur-D-O2 to decrease the divers' decompression time and increase safety.

Glenn divers tested the new Drass One dive helmet, and early feedback is good. The 30-degree rear angle makes it easier to look up and look from side to side. The helmet was found to be comfortable, especially the liner, and the communication was very clear.
