AVMAC would like to recognize our MAG-11 team for their outstanding support during the movement and placement of the F/A-18 Hornet static display at the East Gate of Marine Corps Air Station Miramar on August 16, 2026.

The team dedicated 10 hours to this effort, demonstrating professionalism, technical expertise, and teamwork throughout the planning, movement, and precise positioning of the aircraft. Their hard work contributed to the successful completion of this project, enhanced the appearance of the Station’s primary entrance, and helped preserve Miramar’s proud aviation heritage.

Today, AVMAC honors the brave servicemembers who were Prisoners of War (POW) and those who remain Missing in Action (MIA). This day is an opportunity to remember the sacrifices of these men and women in uniform, honor their service to our nation, and recognize the families and loved ones who continue to carry their memory.

National POW/MIA Recognition Day was established in 1979 to honor those who were held as prisoners of war and those who remained missing during their military service. The POW/MIA flag serves as a powerful reminder of our nation’s commitment to remembering these servicemembers and carries the enduring message: “You Are Not Forgotten.”

More than 130,000 American servicemembers have been prisoners of war since World War II, while tens of thousands of military members remain missing in action. As we observe this day, we pause to reflect on their service and sacrifices and stand in support of the military community and the families who continue to await answers.

As we continue our work in support of our nation’s military, we are proud to take a moment to honor those who served, sacrificed, and have yet to return home. Their service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Twenty-five years later, we remember.

On September 11, 2001, our nation experienced a tragedy that changed countless lives and left a lasting mark on our history.

Today, we honor the 2,977 lives lost, the first responders and service members who answered the call, and the families and communities forever affected by that day.

We remember their courage, sacrifice, and service.

We will never forget.
