I left a survey today with a very disappointed homeowner. They had been talked into signing a contract and pre-paying for a “pool kit.”

A leisurely box store in the area had taken them for nearly $5000 on a small pool kit with lots of junk parts. We processed an estimate for the same size pool subbing out inferior junk parts for a quality kit with high-quality parts with good warranties. We were able to offer him a vastly superior package and our total came in nearly $200 less expensive.

Unfortunately the box store would not return his money and now he’s stuck with the cheap pool and parts.

The moral of this story is two-fold. First, don’t sign a contract for what these box stores have hundreds of in a warehouse and definitely don’t put down a deposit. You’ll never see that money again.

Second give Wave Motion Pools a call before signing anything or putting down a deposit. We only sell quality pools, liners and accessories. All of our merchandise comes with solid warranties. Rarely do we require a deposit unless your kit includes custom ordered parts. Our contract is an installation contract not a sales contract. We’ve never needed them. Our kits and parts sell themselves. Our pool packages are much higher quality and less expensive than the box store junk packages with trash parts & accessories.

It’s that time of year again. $399 installed pool advertisements. These are scams. The posters are just trying to get your personal information. Don’t be a sucker. The cost to manufacture, package, ship, store and deliver a pool are well above $400. The ads also mention free installation. I don’t know of any contractors who work for free. Also the videos are misleading. They show a hard-sided above ground pool several times but the pools they are selling are Intex and Coleman knockoffs. These same size pools sell for $300 at Walmart. The moral of this story is if it sounds too good to be true it probably is.

Tariffs on Chinese goods are hitting the pool industry and that could potentially be bad news for the pool consumer.

Cheap junk parts sold at many of the box stores will cost you more but the quality will still be terrible and you’ll be left with a sore wallet and numerous headaches. Leaky gaskets, cracked plastic and rusting walls and frames just to name a few.

Those grandiose sounding warranties won’t save you either. Sure the manufacturer will send you “free” replacement parts but with exorbitant shipping and warehouse fees and you’ll still need to have someone physically change out the parts which will just rust out again in a few years. Problem not solved!
