How well do current design methods predict the behavior of cantilever light-frame diaphragms?

In collaboration with Clemson University, MiTek is conducting research to evaluate the lateral performance of cantilever light-frame diaphragms through full-scale testing and numerical modeling.

Initial findings show that both SDPWS equations and Equivalent Truss Method (ETM) modeling were able to accurately predict the contributions of different behaviors to overall diaphragm displacement for the first tested specimen.

Additional testing is planned to further evaluate peak load prediction, chord deformation effects, and diaphragms constructed with truss floor members that include MiTek connector plates.

Research like this contributes additional data and validation that can help advance industry knowledge of cantilever diaphragm behavior.
