Let’s talk Kovar!

Kovar is a nickel-cobalt-iron alloy with a coefficient of thermal expansions closely matched with borosilicate glads and alumina ceramics. This makes the material of choice for hermetic glass-to-metal and ceramic-to-metal seals in aerospace, defense, and medical electronics.

What makes Kovar challenging to machine is its tendency to work-harden rapidly during cutting & inherent gumminess. Kovar requires sharp, positive-rake tooling, controlled chip loads, and adequate coolant to maintain dimensional accuracy and surface finish.

The result: tight-tolerance components that hold up in the most demanding environments.

Today we’re celebrating two awesome ‘firsts’! Jessie completed her first machine setup - and nailed it. Aiden programmed his first part all on his own!

These are two huge milestones for our awesome machinists and we’re so proud of both of them for stepping up and getting it done. 💪🏼⚙️
