Alexandrites are magnificent stones, just fascinating color change effect and often lovely colors for both sides of it. Diamonds don't really have a similar phenomenon, but there are some that fluoresce so strongly in an uncommon color that it can appear that way. While most Diamonds fluoresce blue, some emit yellow, green, pink, orange, and other colors. If the base of the stone is one color, and the fluorescence is strong enough then it'll "change" in sunlight or other strong uv light sources (just an FYI in case you're wearing your jewelry to laser tag).
It's weird though that NJ didn't show both the green and red/purple images of the ring in the article. If your subject changes color, you might want to include both images.
The nearly 17-carat stone made history for the phenomenal gemstone the auction house said is experiencing a “notable surge” in the market.
