🚨 CTIP Portfolio Members & other pediatric device innovators:

The Foundation for the National Institutes of Health (FNIH) has released a Request for Information (RFI) for pilot demonstration projects under the Pediatric Medical Device Public-Private Partnership (PMD-PPP). Your insights could directly shape the national ecosystem supporting pediatric medical device innovation!

πŸ’ What is the PMD-PPP?
The PMD-PPP is a coordinated national initiative designed to support the full lifecycle of pediatric device development – from early-stage concept through market entry – by building a sustainable infrastructure that addresses barriers to innovation. The program aims to reduce risk and streamline this process, enabling broader access to pediatric technologies.

πŸ’ What Information is Requested?
- A brief description of your pediatric device and unmet need
- The stage of development
- The support you would need from the PMD-PPP Navigation Core
- Why your project is a compelling pilot demonstration candidate

Note: This RFI is for information and planning purposes only and does not commit to funding. However, this is a great opportunity to impact national infrastructure that could benefit pediatric medical device development long-term.

🚨 New Portfolio Member! 🚨

We're excited to share that we've welcomed ArtemisAI Labs to the CTIP portfolio!

ArtemisAI is a clinical-AI company developing real-time bedside computer-vision and sensor-based monitoring systems for hospitals. Their focus is to transform patient care and enable early detection of adverse events.

Their NeoPose device is a non-contact system that converts bedside video of a neonate into quantitative movement features using infant-specific pose estimation. The algorithm detects anatomical key points, summarizes movement and computes a Movement Index, which is directly correlated with neurological status that displays real-time trends to clinicians.

Welcome, team!

At just five days old, Lucy underwent open heart surgery at Children's Minnesota. By the following year, her doctors noticed her aorta, the main vessel of the heart that helps blood flow to the rest of the body, wasn't growing as expected.

Enter: the Minima Stent from Renata Medical. The device had been recently approved by the U.S. FDA and can be expanded as a child grows, potentially reducing the number of future surgeries needed. Lucy was the first child in MN to receive the stent – and her aorta now stays open, allowing blood to flow normally.

We're always thrilled to see our portfolio members' devices in action, making a difference in the lives of children and their families.

πŸ«€ Every year, 1 in 100 babies is diagnosed with a congenital heart defect, making it the most common birth defect in children worldwide.

Few devices exist that are specifically designed for babies, leading providers to utilize existing devices developed for adults, which limit their utility in pediatric populations.

🌟 Starlight Cardiovascular, a CTIP portfolio member, is developing a range of devices to enable minimally invasive procedures to replace open-heart surgeries, which could potentially mean fewer complications and less time in the hospital for these children. They were recently featured on Empowered hosted by Meg Ryan.

Starlight hopes to help babies and their families avoid invasive surgeries and improve pediatric quality of life among children with congenital heart defects.

Smart phones, smart watches, smart... beds? Yes, really!

πŸ›οΈ Cubby Beds is a CTIP portfolio member and creator of a smart bed designed for children with neurodisabilities to get a better, safer night's rest.

They recently published findings from the first ever research conducted on enclosed beds. Their survey of 225 caregivers in the Journal of Applied Research in Intellectual Disabilities, showing that their beds improve both sleep and safety for the children they're made for – which included an increase in hours slept and a decrease in reported injuries.

In 2026, they're prioritizing additional research, including two more peer-reviewed studies, seeking evidence that their smart bed improves health outcomes.

We're thrilled to announce our first new portfolio member of 2026, Maguro Surgical!

Maguro Surgical is a MedTech startup developing the first magnetic hydrogel retrieval system for ureteroscopic kidney stone fragment removal in both pediatric and adult patients.

Today, up to 40% of ureteroscopy cases leave behind residual fragments, contributing to recurrence and re-intervention.

Maguro's MagStone technology addresses a critical gap in kidney stone management by enabling precise and effective retrieval of fragments following laser lithotripsyβ€”a step currently missing in most procedures. By magnetizing kidney stone fragments with their biocompatible hydrogel formulation, the fragments are effortlessly attracted to the device's retrieval wire, empowering providers to streamline procedures and reduce stone burden, all while elevating the standard of care.

Fusionless Technologies Group (FTG) has joined the CTIP portfolio!

πŸ’‘ FTG is developing the first purpose-built anterior vertebral tethering (AVT) system for pediatric scoliosis, working to create a safer, more effective and more durable alternative to spinal fusion surgery, while aiming to reduce post-op rupture rates.

Their unique loop tether design maintains spinal motion and function via minimally invasive incisions.

🌟 Welcome to CTIP, FTG!

🐾 When Tom Stevens' mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2011, her dog had to be re-homed for safety reasons. With his mom craving the companionship she once had, Tom set out to source an alternative. When nothing else compared, he saw a gap in the market – and an opportunity to create a new and innovative support device.

🐢 In 2017, after years of research and testing, Tom developed the idea for the Tombot, a lifelike robotic dog designed to serve as a psychological and emotional aid for anyone with Alzheimer's, dementia and other developmental challenges, in both pediatric and adult populations.

As of early December 2025, Tombot, a CTIP portfolio member , currently has a pre-order and waitlist of over 18,000 people from 116 countries.
