We’re excited to announce our newest Chicago interns, Jacob Barthel and Libby Suderman!

Jake recently completed his Bachelor of Architecture at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, with a minor in Business, and plans to continue his education through a Master of Architecture program. He brings prior internship experience with Wold Architects and Engineers, where he supported the design process through detail, plan, and section drawings, participated in client meetings, and collaborated on site coordination efforts.

A fun fact about Jake – he is a practice player for the University of Illinois Women’s Basketball team!

Libby is currently pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, with minors in Business and Spanish. She brings prior internship experience with FH Paschen, where she supported field and office construction management tasks, including RFIs, BIM, and project coordination efforts. She has also worked as a research assistant and university tour guide at UIUC.

A fun fact about Libby – she really enjoys baking and has been making homemade cinnamon rolls a lot lately!

Our team attended “A Toast to Time: Pabst, Present, & Future” with special guests at Pabst Mansion and The Wisconsin Club. The event celebrated the progress of Phase I restoration work at the historic Pabst Mansion and raised funds for future restoration needs. We are proud to be part of the Mansion’s restoration, providing architectural and structural engineering services related to masonry and window restoration, roof replacement, structural repairs, and restoration of unique original features such as the entry porch mosaic floor.
Restoration of this important building takes extreme care and preserves the stories, legacy and future of Pabst Mansion.

Please join us in welcoming our newest co-op, Bhoomi Gupta, to the K&H Philadelphia team!

Bhoomi is a junior majoring in Materials Science and Engineering with a minor in Product Design at Drexel University. She is most looking forward to gaining hands on experience through her co-op and learning how engineering concepts translate into real world projects and problem-solving. Bhoomi is excited to explore the field, develop new skills, and collaborate with professionals in an interdisciplinary environment.

In her free time, she enjoys staying active whether its performing with her classical dance team, hiking and spending time outdoors, or playing sports.

K&H presented at the International Concrete Repair Institute - (ICRI) 2025 Project of the Year Awards along with Pepper Construction Group and Golf Construction.

Our Shedd Aquarium project team won the Project of the Year Award for the Shedd Aquarium Experience Evolution Renovation-Phase 2!

The project team’s presentation, “Reinforcing the Future: Structural Restoration for the Shedd Aquarium Next 100 Years”, discussed the structural repairs and reinforcing completed throughout Phase 2 of the Shedd Aquarium’s Experience Evolution Project part of the Centennial Commitment. Work included new exhibits, alterations for increased occupancy loads, and a new entry hall. Our project team partners at Pepper Construction & Golf Construction provided additional insight into the logistical and constructability challenges of completing the work at an open aquarium.

Our team attended a training hosted by Berglund Construction. Sika presented “Structural Strengthening with FRP”, which included a live demonstration of installing fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) on both a column and a beam, along with a hands-on installation component. Berglund covered post-tension cable repair and provided a live demonstration.
