Installed in 2025.
Compressor completely cooked in 2026.
Today we diagnosed a walk-in cooler with a catastrophic compressor burnout. Breaker tripped instantly on startup. Compressor shell severely overheated and heat-stressed. Acid confirmed throughout the refrigeration system.
What makes this worse?
The unit wiring and safeties had been altered outside of manufacturer specifications.
This is exactly why following manufacturer startup procedures and wiring diagrams matters.
Safety controls are there to protect the compressor.
When safeties are bypassed, removed, or improperly wired, the compressor loses its protection against:
* High head pressure
* Low charge conditions
* Overheating
* Short cycling
* Electrical stress
* Floodback
* Internal thermal damage
The result?
A compressor that literally cooks itself from the inside out.
And once acid forms in the system, the damage spreads through the entire refrigeration circuit.
This wasn’t an old system.
This was a nearly new installation.
Too many installations are being rushed:
* No nitrogen while brazing
* No proper evacuation
* No verified decay test
* No deep vacuum below 500 microns
* Controls altered outside manufacturer specifications
Then everyone wonders why compressors fail a year later.
Anybody can make equipment run.
Professional refrigeration work means installing equipment the way the manufacturer engineered it to operate.
500 microns matters.
Factory wiring matters.
Safety controls matter.
Because when shortcuts are taken during installation, the customer pays for it later.
