I’m Tony Moore, and on February 7, 1976, my cousin Brenda Kay Moore was killed in Whitley County, KY, by a CSX coal train. She was just a kid, riding with her mom Nora and our cousin Ralph to visit our grandparents, Sherman and Mary Moore. Their car crossed an unguarded railroad track, and a mile-long coal train—hidden by its massive load—was on them before they could react. CSX’s neglect of lights or gates cost Brenda her life. The rich haul coal while our families pay the price.
I’m building BRENDA (Bluetooth-Enabled Resonance for National Detection and Alerts) to stop these tragedies. This app will warn drivers of approaching trains, let you report broken crossing signals, and use AI to detect rail hazards like cracks—all starting in Whitley County, where Brenda was taken. Over 3,000 KY crossings lack gates (FRA data), and we can fight back.
I need Whitley County testers to try BRENDA, share stories of dangerous crossings, or support our mission. Let’s honor Brenda Kay Moore and protect our families from CSX’s negligence. Message me to join, share this post, or help fund sensors. Together, we’ll make coal country safer.
