• Did you know that many processes, regardless of whether fast or slow, follow an S - shaped (sigmoid) curve for the amount transformed as a function of time?
• S - curves (sigmoidal curves) model processes where growth or transformation begins slowly, accelerates or falls rapidly, and then levels off as it approaches a system limit.
• The process of drying typically, for example, follows a modified "S-curve" (sigmoidal) trend for residual moisture content for small particles. Higher drying temperatures promote rapid productivity.
• S - curves (and their mirror images) that describe a transformation, trace their ubiquitous fundamental origins to principles of entropy production, which often have both classical mechanical and thermo-chemical gradients or statistical underpinnings. The entropy generation rate can be expressed as [(PDF)/(CDF)^2] when the rate of transformation follows a near-Gaussian behavior. Here, the PDF is a probability density function (like a bell-shaped curve), and the CDF is a cumulative distribution function (like an S-curve).

• Atmospheric warming increases both rain and wind because a hotter atmosphere holds more moisture and generates more intense energy. As global temperatures rise, ev***ration accelerates, and the resulting warm air supercharges storm systems, leading to extreme weather.
• Warmer air holds significantly more water v***r. For every 1°C of warming, the atmosphere's moisture capacity increases by about 7%
• Because the Arctic is warming so quickly (called polar amplification), the temperature difference between the mid-latitudes and the North Pole is shrinking. This smaller gradient weakens the polar jet stream. Instead of a fast, straight river of air keeping cold weather locked up north, the jet stream slows, becomes highly unstable, and meanders in wild, deep loops. This brings extreme weather events (such as sudden cold snaps or prolonged heatwaves) to the mid-latitudes.
• While the Arctic surface is warming rapidly, the upper atmosphere above the tropics (the upper troposphere) is also warming intensely due to massive heat release from tropical thunderstorms. At the same time, the polar stratosphere is cooling. This means that high in the sky, the temperature gradient is increasing, which can accelerate upper-level winds and cause severe turbulence.
