• Did you know that many processes, regardless of whether fast or slow, follow an S - shaped (sigmoid) curve for the amount transformed as a function of time?
• S - curves (sigmoidal curves) model processes where growth or transformation begins slowly, accelerates or falls rapidly, and then levels off as it approaches a system limit.
• The process of drying typically, for example, follows a modified "S-curve" (sigmoidal) trend for residual moisture content for small particles. Higher drying temperatures promote rapid productivity.
• S - curves (and their mirror images) that describe a transformation, trace their ubiquitous fundamental origins to principles of entropy production, which often have both classical mechanical and thermo-chemical gradients or statistical underpinnings.
