Composite Mechanic/Electrician
Job Description: Inspect, service and maintain diesel locomotives in accordance with federal and company regulations. Diagnose diesel engine malfunctions and make indicated repairs using hand tools, measuring instruments and sometimes machine tools with minimal supervision.
Pay Wage and Benefits: Wages start at $20.00/hr - $22.00/hr. Guaranteed 40 hours per week. Hours and days to be determined at time of hire. Overtime pays at time and a half and is often likely but not guaranteed. Benefits to include Health, Dental, Chiropractic and Life Insurance after completing 90 day training and orientation period. 401k is offered after 1 year of employment with 4% matching to employees 5% contribution.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The following information should be considered a comprehensive description of this position. It should be noted that some responsibilities and duties may not be addressed and additional duties may be assigned.
· Your primary responsibility is to ensure that all work be done in a safe manner and all safety rules take precedence over any other work. It is your responsibility to maintain a safe working environment for you and all employees. This includes identifying safety hazards, avoiding unsafe work and problem solving.
· Perform daily locomotive inspections, including air brake cleaning and testing.
· Perform periodic service on locomotives that include sampling and changing oil, turbo inspection, changing engine air and air compressor filters and greasing couplings, fittings, traction motor gears, electrical testing and repair.
· Replace locomotive and diesel engine components including springs, couplers, draft gear assembly, gear cases and cylinder assemblies.
· Diagnose malfunctions in diesel engines, air equipment or other components in order to determine the nature of the problem and needed repair or replacement.
· Must be knowledgeable in the handling of hazardous and non-hazardous waste material.
· Perform daily service of locomotive units: fuels, waters, lubricates and oils, wipe down and clean units/windows and check supplies.
· Perform periodic and annual inspections in accordance to FRA regulations pertaining to inspections.
· Communicate regularly with supervisors to ensure that objectives are being met.
· Perform any and all duties assigned by management.
Required Skills: The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
· Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs. for an extended duration.
· Preferred to be able to read gauges, precision measuring instruments, schematics and maintenance manuals.
· Must be able to reach with arms and hands to perform inspections, maintenance and repair duties.
· Preferred to have electrical education and work experience in electronics, control systems and AC/DC motors.
· Must have the ability to speak English in a clear, concise manner in order to communicate with employees.
