The Nyrstar East Tennessee Mine Rescue Team, a volunteer group of employees proficient in advanced rescue operations, has been actively engaged in disaster response in Unicoi County, Tennessee, following the devastation wrought by Hurricane Helene, which hit the region over the weekend.
In response to a statewide call for assistance, the Mine Rescue Team, affiliated with the Tennessee Association of Rescue Squads, dispatched a contingent of seven skilled mine workers. Members of the East Tennessee Mine Rescue Team are trained in areas of Advance Mine Rescue, Firefighting, HAZMAT, Search and Extrication as well other first responder skills to assist fellow employees or members of the community during emergency situations. The East Tennessee Mine operations are also contributing resources and providing food to organizations leading disaster relief operations.
Additionally, Nyrstar Clarksville’s Process Manager, Terry Dabbs, is also is helping those affected by the storm. Terry, and fellow members of the Cumberland K9 Search & Recovery Team responded to a request for assistance by the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency.
