How about a Throttle Thursday post!

Projects moving through the shop.

Some follow up data/ results from a manifold we just finished.
A customer reached out stating that he had a manifold ported by someone else. Once installed it slowed down.
After going over the engine and vehicle information we determined that his current manifold was " too big"

We discussed different options including using epoxy to "shrink" his manifold.
After some thought, he decided to have us do a whole new manifold from scratch.

The new manifold results, at 3600 ft DA tied his previous best mph which was at 107 ft DA. Also stating that the car has a wheelie problem now.

We want the engine combination to accelerate.
True Manifold porting is matching it to the engine combination and usage.

This is not trashing anyone else post,
This is information, none of us are as smart as all of us.

Morning guys.
Today's post is more of an informational post more than anything.
What actually goes into "porting my cylinder heads"?
How long does it take? What's the turn around time?

We discuss the customers goals, engine combination, cam profile, intended application.

Once we receive your cylinder heads, they are cleaned, disassembled and inspected.
We generally identify most issues here.
We spend hours cleaning and inspecting each component.

Once the cylinder heads are cleaned, the cylinder head is flowed to establish a baseline.

Then the next step is the heart and soul of the port work,
The valve job.

After the valve job, that's when we can start putting the sizes and shapes together.

When we get the shapes and sizes we are looking for, the next step is to cc the chambers to achieve the desired compression.

From there , every component is thoroughly cleaned again for final assembly.

Each valve spring is tested, each valve is checked for straightness and polished like new, every valve is checked for the installed height.

From there they go into a boxed and shipped to the customer.

This process usually takes 6-8 weeks if we don't run into any other issues.

Monday morning motivation!
Another Performance Prototyping and Engineering Iron Hide P2E manifold wrapped up.
This one is for a long time friend John Perry .
We also tuned up a set of AFR 235's for this combination.
The goal is to crack 840+.
454 Cubic inches
15.7 compression
Q16 fuel

As always, we exclusively use Killer Carbide Burs to make the chips.

Power in a manifold 💪
Followers of Jason and Cobb's Dyno session over the 4th of July weekend.
I thought I'd do a follow up on the 2 years of manifold development.
In March of 2020 Jason brought his Drag Week combination to Dynotune Engineering, LLC where Cobb and Jason tuned on the combination, this established our baseline with the Edelbrock 2858.
In August 2020 , Jason shipped me the 2858 to evaluate. ( It had already been ported by 2 other people ).

After some measurements, poking, welding and grinding I came up with my design.
Jason ran that design for the 20-21 season.
Over the winter of 2021 Jason decided to step up his engine program.

The cylinder heads were sent to Uncle Tony at BES and I was put on task to design a no holds bar manifold for the new combination.
Heading into SICK week 2022 the engine was still sporting the same Edelbrock 2858, making enough power to go 8.71@ 155 at 3160 lbs.

Following SICK weeks win and record,
Jason wanted to Dyno the engine as it was ran during his 8.71@155 pass.

The new baseline was established with the improved Edelbrock 2858.
Off with the Edelbrock and on with the new manifold affectionately called "Frankenstein".
I can not confirm or deny that " Frankenstein" may have netted 42 HP @ 8300 RPM, and 22 numbers in TQ.

Here's a project we just wrapped up for our good friend Jason Bennett .

A true pump gas street combination.

The ProMaxx Performance Products, LLC 290 cylinder heads are a fantastic casting, we were really happy with the quality.
We started with the 290 cc version. We left the factory valve job, hand blended the chambers.
Ported the exhaust and intake ports.

Next up was a Marketplace score. A Dart 4500 fl**ge manifold with " peanut" ports.

Once the manifold arrived, we noticed that someone had previously cut the dividers down.
No biggie, we cut them off even and welded in new dividers.

To move the valves, Jason reached out to Cobb Racing Enterprises for a custom camshaft.

How about something really different.

AMC power!
Not gonna show too many details, I'll say that this is the most epoxy we've used in a single manifold.

4.200 bore
3.780 stroke
15.2 compression

8 MM stem, 2.165 intake valve from the "LS Family".
