If your house was built before 1978-make sure you hire a contractor with a lead paint certification. It’s a big fine for a contractor to even bid/estimate on a job without one. It’s unfortunate that only Oregon requires this, and they should inform homeowners buying a pre 78 house about the requirement. Most contractors, like myself don’t want to deal with the hassle around this. I’ve seen many beautiful, older houses torn down to the foundation and rebuilt to avoid the ridiculous costs that go with it.
