Rising above the heart of Times Square, the newly redeveloped One Times Square introduces an immersive viewing experience that brings visitors closer than ever to one of the world’s most recognizable intersections. The entertainment attraction’s viewing deck features dramatic structural glass wind screens reaching over 8 feet tall, along with a transparent glass floor that creates a thrilling perspective high above the city streets.

Delivering these highly transparent structural glass elements presented a unique set of challenges. According to Jeff Haber, Managing Partner at W&W Glass, “The biggest challenge was the logistics for everything - from unloading materials and securing manpower access to working at the building’s edge, all while maintaining a safe environment for both workers and pedestrians and meeting the project schedule.”

The observation deck’s design also required an innovative installation approach. “The product design was different because it had to provide installation access for the wind screens entirely from the interior floor slabs, with no exterior access available for installation or future glass replacement,” explains Haber. “This required a specialized base assembly and gantry rigging system to set and adjust the glass to level. We also had to develop a day-two replacement strategy for the client and incorporate anti-reflective coatings to maintain clear views in such a highly illuminated environment as Times Square.”

To support the demanding structural requirements of a glass flooring system in a high-traffic public environment, laminated glass incorporating SentryGlas® interlayers were selected. Known for its exceptional strength, stiffness, and post-breakage performance, SentryGlas® helps the glass floor maintain structural integrity while delivering outstanding clarity for uninterrupted views below.

The resulting experience is defined by openness and transparency. As Haber notes, “These structural glass systems allow for very open, unobstructed views of the Times Square area and all the visual activations that it is known for.”

Beyond the observation deck itself, the project also includes a remarkable glass elevator enclosure that further enhances the visitor journey. “The elevator enclosure is a unique design that encompasses a vast uninterrupted glass enclosure as you ride the elevator more than 290 feet up the side of the building,” says Haber. “The heavy laminated glass is cantilevered from the building with no vertical supports, providing wide-open views for occupants. It is the most transparent installation of its kind in North America.”

Beneath the plaza in Canberra, The Oculus emerges as a sculptural skylight where light, memory, and engineering converge. Conceived as a connective threshold between the existing memorial and its new extension, the space invites quiet contemplation through a composition of sixteen double-curved glass petals surrounding a central spherical element.

Crafted from extra-clear tempered laminated glass with SentryGlas® interlayer, each panel reflects an extraordinary level of precision, combining complex geometries, structural performance, and digital printing into a seamless architectural composition. Within the dome, a secondary layer of opposing curved panels forms a delicate veil of hyperboloid-shaped glass flowers, enriching the interplay of light and shadow throughout the space.
Comprising 32 unique glass elements, each weighing up to 350 kg, The Oculus stands as a testament to international collaboration and technical mastery - transforming glass into an architectural expression of remembrance.

At the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Dresden, cutting-edge research meets responsible design. The project integrates bird-friendly glazing solutions into a contemporary architectural environment, supporting both innovation and environmental stewardship.

Laminated glass incorporating Trosifol® BirdSecure® Pro 90/6 interlayers helps reduce bird collisions while maintaining high levels of transparency and visual clarity. The subtle pattern is visible to birds yet minimally intrusive to the human eye- ensuring safety without compromising the building’s design intent.

By combining performance, sustainability, and architectural expression, the project demonstrates how advanced interlayer technologies can contribute to safer, more responsible built environments.

Kuraray was a proud sponsor of the 26th Annual Bringing Hope Home (BHH) Philly Great Guys Dinner held on Thursday, May 7th at the Springfield Country Club. Tameca Morrow attended as the company’s representative. It was a memorable evening of "Unexpected Amazingness" for local families facing the financial and emotional burden of cancer. The night was a huge success and through sponsors and guests' extraordinary generosity, Light of Hope Family Program hit a milestone: $425,000+ Raised for 362 Families. This support will help families pay rent, mortgages, and utilities when they need it most.

A lively cocktail hour set the tone for a night of reflection, celebration, and fun. Guests bid on a variety of silent auction goods. We appreciated BHH Families' touching stories, which reminded us of the missions "why". BHH Leadership Team reflected on past year's triumphs, acknowledged "gamechangers" who go above and beyond to support the cause, and celebrated Family Honorees.

Joe Conklin, a famed Philly comic, entertained the crowd with his legendary impersonation and laughter. Tameca had the opportunity to have her picture taken with the Eagles Mascot and some of the cheerleaders. The high-stakes live auction and raffles were exciting as supporters rallied to boost our fundraising total.

Located in Balneário Camboriú–SC, the monumental staircase at Ox Steak & Fish is defined by its clean integration of structural glass and circulation. The guardrails, formed from 8+8 mm tempered laminated glass with a SentryGlas® interlayer, deliver both transparency and structural reliability - allowing the geometry of the stair to remain visually uninterrupted.

The glazing system plays a critical role in maintaining openness while meeting performance demands, providing enhanced stiffness and post-breakage behavior essential for high-traffic applications. By minimizing visual barriers, the glass reinforces the sculptural quality of the staircase and elevates the overall spatial experience.

Here, glass operates as both a safety element and an architectural feature - supporting movement while preserving clarity, light, and continuity throughout the space.
