During Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month, we’re reflecting on the experiences of older adults, including those living with dementia.
People with intellectual and developmental disabilities, especially those with Down syndrome, are at a higher risk of developing dementia, often at younger ages. As needs change over time, person-centered thinking remains one of the most meaningful ways to provide support by focusing on what matters most to each person, not just their diagnosis.
Small, thoughtful actions like honoring routines and respecting preferences can make a lasting difference in quality of life.
