Apparently THIS is what two hours of sleep looks like. 😂🔨

The video is POV.

Guy has a tiny piece of wood.

He’s trying to nail it to another piece of wood.

And he’s fumbling around like his hands have officially stopped communicating with his brain.

The caption:

“What 2 hrs of sleep looks like.”

Brad watches.

Waits for something to happen.

Keeps waiting...

And finally realizes:

That’s it. That’s the video. 😂

Brad’s review?

“This is dumb.”

Not every construction video needs a 47-step explanation.

Sometimes somebody is tired, misses a nail a few times, posts it on the internet...

And Brad spends the next 30 seconds wondering why he was asked to watch it. 😂

Although we WILL agree with one thing:

Power tools, ladders, saws, nail guns and two hours of sleep are probably not the dream team.

Get some sleep.

Then come back and defeat that terrifying 4-inch piece of wood tomorrow. 😂

For homeowners in Tampa, Clearwater, Dunedin, Safety Harbor, Sarasota, and throughout the Tampa Bay area, Home Love Construction specializes in renovations, additions, framing, remodeling, and complete home transformations—preferably performed by people who got more than two hours of sleep.Video from:

So if the steel is straight and the concrete is wavy, what happens in that little gap? 👀

Grout. A LOT of grout. 😂

When a house is lifted and steel beams are placed underneath it, the steel is perfectly straight.

The existing concrete slab?

Not necessarily.

That slab can have waves and variations that leave gaps between the concrete and the new steel underneath.

So what do you do?

Fill that entire space with grout.

Brad explains that the steel doesn’t have to be physically attached directly to the slab to prevent uplift. The connection happens through that grout filling the space between them.

And here’s the part that might surprise people:

The steel isn’t doing all the heavy lifting.

The concrete slab itself is doing most of it.

Even though the slab is only about four inches thick, it was poured as one continuous piece, making it incredibly strong.

The steel underneath is there to provide additional support.

So when you look underneath a lifted house and see all that massive steel, it’s easy to assume:

“Well, THAT must be holding the whole house up.”

Not quite.

There’s a little more happening above those beams than meets the eye. 👀🏠

Steel looks great until Mother Nature decides she wants to add her own orange paint job. 😂

When you lift a house, especially one near the coast, you may end up with a whole lot of exposed steel underneath it.

And naturally, that steel comes in that normal grayish steel color.

Leave it untreated?

It’s going to rust.

So on this house right on the water in Pasco County, they took an extra step and sprayed the steel black.

And Brad likes it for two reasons.

First, it just looks GOOD.

Instead of all that raw gray steel underneath the house, you get a much cleaner, finished appearance.

Second, that coating adds another layer of protection and significantly slows down the rusting process.

When you’ve gone through the work of lifting an entire house, protecting the steel underneath it seems like a pretty reasonable finishing touch. 😂

Cleaner look. More protection. Less rust.

When you lift the HOUSE, the plumbing doesn’t exactly come along politely. 😂🏠⬆️

One of the realities of lifting a home onto a raised structure?

You’re probably doing a whole lot of plumbing again.

The underground plumbing beneath the concrete slab isn’t attached to the house itself.

So when the house gets lifted, those pipes don’t simply rise up with it.

They can fall, sections can get cut during the lifting process, and suddenly the plumbing that used to serve the house is no longer where you need it.

That means most of the drains typically have to be redone.

And if water supply lines were running underneath the house?

Many of those may need to be replaced too.

Can some of the existing plumbing occasionally be salvaged?

Sure.

But Brad says more often than not:

Plan on replacing it.

Because when you move an entire HOUSE upward, there are going to be a few things underneath that need to change with it. 😂

Waterproofing is usually supposed to make you MORE confident about water. This is doing the opposite. 😂💧

Right out of the gate, Brad has questions.

The material being stuffed into the joint?

“That’s not backer rod.”

And from there, his confidence in this installation drops FAST. 😂

He keeps watching, trying to figure out what system they're using and how any of this is supposed to create a reliable waterproof assembly.

His professional analysis quickly becomes:

“What is this nonsense?”

Followed shortly by:

“Is this even waterproofing?!” 😂

There may be additional context or a specific system we're not seeing, but based on what's shown, Brad is completely lost.

By the end, he's given up trying to identify it altogether.

His final description?

“Some weird dreamscape.” 😂

Waterproofing pros, Brad needs backup.

THAT is a tool you definitely hear before you see. 😂💥

Meet the Ramset.

If you've never heard one go off on a construction site, your first thought might be:

“WHO JUST FIRED A GUN?!” 😳

Powder-actuated tools use a small explosive charge to drive approved fasteners into hard materials such as concrete, which explains that very distinctive BANG.

In this video, the crew is working on basement waterproofing, and once Brad realizes what they're doing, his reaction is basically:

Thank God we build in Florida. 😂🌴

Because basements bring an entirely different collection of construction details involving below-grade walls, drainage, moisture, and waterproofing.

Meanwhile, Brad's Florida projects are over here like:

“Basement? You mean an indoor swimming pool?” 😂

We'll happily leave this one to the contractors up north.

This tiny piece of plastic has ONE job: don’t let that tile move. 😂👏

This is a wedge-style tile leveling clip, and it's doing more than just sitting between two tiles.

The clip slips underneath the edges of the tile, with its thickness helping establish the grout joint.

Then the wedge slides through the clip and applies pressure to help keep the neighboring tiles aligned with each other while the mortar cures.

And Brad definitely has a preference here:

WEDGES.

Why?

Because the wedge moves in one direction.

Push it in.

Tighten it.

Leave the tile alone. 😂

With twist-cap leveling systems, you're rotating the cap directly over freshly positioned tile. Brad doesn't love introducing that twisting motion because it can potentially disturb the tile you just worked to position.

Then everything stays in place overnight while the mortar sets.

The next day?

The clips come out and you're left with consistent joints and tiles that stayed where you put them.

Tiny tool. VERY important overnight babysitting job. 😂

not all tile leveling systems are created equal. 😂🔨

When you're installing large-format tile, keeping neighboring tiles sitting evenly with each other is a BIG part of getting that clean finished look.

Brad's preference?

The wedge-style leveling clips.

The clip sits at the grout joint, and the wedge pushes through it in one direction to help bring the adjoining tiles into alignment.

Brad likes that straight, one-directional movement because you're not introducing a twisting motion right at the edge of freshly positioned tile.

Compare that with some twist-style leveling systems, where you rotate the cap to tighten everything down.

Brad's concern?

You're literally twisting something against the tile you're trying NOT to move. 😂

That doesn't mean twist systems can't work when they're used correctly. Plenty of installers use different leveling systems successfully.

Brad just prefers the wedge.

Push.

Tighten.

Level.

And please stop moving the tile we JUST spent ten minutes getting perfect. 😂

Your hardwood needs to move into the house BEFORE it officially moves into the house. 😂🪵

Before hardwood flooring gets installed, Brad wants it sitting inside the conditioned space first.

Why?

Because wood reacts to its environment.

Changes in temperature and, importantly, moisture and humidity can cause wood flooring to expand or contract.

On this project, the flooring came all the way from Spain and had been stored for a couple of months.

Brad definitely doesn't want to pull it out of storage and immediately start laying it down.

Instead, it gets brought into the house with the AC running and given time to acclimate to the conditions where it will actually live.

Brad typically wants at least 24 hours, preferably 48, for this particular flooring and project—but actual acclimation requirements can vary by flooring product and manufacturer.

The goal is simple:

Let the wood do its moving BEFORE you install it. 😂

Because movement beforehand?

Fine.

Movement after you've installed an entire beautiful hardwood floor?

That's when everybody gets considerably less excited.
