Where were you when the world stopped turning on that September day - Alan Jackson
Please remember what you saw when you closed your eyes on 9/11/2001 and the unity you felt on 9/12/2001.

I was on Naval Station Norfolk about to enter NSGA (Naval Security Group Activity) while listening to the news on FM99 radio as Nikki Reed announced that an airplane had crashed into the World Trade Center.
I listened to the news coverage in disbelief but had been ordered report so I had to go in to the building. As I reached for the keys to turn the van off, Nikki Reed's surprised voice came through the speakers to say that another plane had crashed into the other tower. I slumped back and realized that for the first time in my 5 year naval career we would really be at war.
I would not get home until 3 a.m. My team was tasked with helping to secure the gates of NAVSTA Norfolk. All morning and afternoon I was driving a forklift to put Jersey walls in front of the gates wearing a flak jacket while Marines and security personnel were locked and loaded with ri**es aimed through the gates.
Later we were tasked with helping to get 8 US Navy warships out to sea with only half of the personnel that would normally perform these tasks. Around 2100 (9 pm) we sat on the floor in a large room and ate MREs. We all ate like it was a 5 star meal and after we talked about none of us had eaten since we left home about 5:30 or 6 am.
I would serve another 8 years and sustain a few injuries These years held many changes and many opportunities but that day changed America forever.
We realized for a short time that Democrats and Republicans were ALL Americans and that brought us together and made me proud.

God Bless America and remember what some of us can never forget!!!!
