People often ask why we don’t rely on large-scale sealants for most basement waterproofing jobs. It’s a fair question—these products are heavily marketed as simple solutions.
The reality is that most leaks involve hydrostatic pressure, so effective waterproofing usually requires drainage and pressure relief rather than just sealing. True “waterproofing” is often more about smart water control.
That said, sealants still have their place. For example, in this case, we have an 8-inch hydrant line, various conduits, and rods coming through a basement wall. Digging 10 feet down isn’t always practical or cost-effective. In those cases, we sometimes start with a high-quality sealant.
Of course, it’s not a guaranteed fix—water pressure can eventually overcome even the best seal. But it’s a smart, low-impact first step.
