Yes, a roof keeps the rain out. But it also deals with heat and moisture that build up within the assembly.

Without proper ventilation, hot air and moisture can become trapped in the roof space and that can contribute to condensation, elevated temperatures, material degradation, and reduced roof-system performance.

Proper ventilation helps create a pathway for air to move through the assembly, allowing heat and moisture to escape. The Viper Ridge Vent was created to do just that: https://keenebuilding.com/products/viper-ridge-vent/

It's not the most visible part of a roof system, but it can have a very visible impact on how the system performs over time.

Great partnerships are built on more than products. They’re built on shared ideas,
collaboration, and a commitment to doing things better. 🤝

This week, we brought our distributors together in Cleveland, where Keene has been innovating since 2002. We started with a little rock history at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, then headed to the Keene Idea Learning Center for a day of hands-on demos, knowledge sharing, and conversations about the building envelope and masonry solutions behind the Keene Advantage.

A big thank-you to everyone who joined us. We’re proud to bring this group together and even more excited about what we’ll build next.

Columbus architects: Make room on your calendar for a little learning and a little friendly competition.

The Full Assembly is in Columbus on Tuesday, October 27, bringing together practical continuing education and an afternoon of Topgolf.

Earn 3 LU/HSW credits through sessions covering three important areas of building performance:
🔹 Multifamily noise control
🔹 Building envelope performance
🔹 Masonry moisture management

Learn from Keene Building Products experts and regional partners who understand how these systems perform beyond the spec sheet. Then, at 2:00 PM, we trade the classroom for the golf bays. Enjoy golf, drinks, and conversation on us.

Q: What makes a masonry cavity wall perform as designed?
A: Drainage, ventilation, and the details that connect the entire wall assembly.

Join Greg Skyta, Division Manager of Mortar Net Solutions, the masonry division of Keene Building Products, for an Acelab webinar exploring how to design and specify high-performance masonry cavity wall systems.

📅 November 4, 2026 | 1:00 PM EST
🎓 Earn 1 LU/HSW credit while learning how to:
🔹 Define the role of drainage and ventilation in masonry cavity walls
🔹 Identify and avoid common envelope design and detailing mistakes
🔹 Select appropriate materials for moisture management
🔹 Specify complete wall systems designed to meet ASTM E2357, ASTM E331, and NFPA 285 requirements

Better wall performance starts with better system design.

Tighter buildings are more energy efficient but are also less forgiving when moisture gets into the assembly.

So, the question isn't just, “How do we keep water out?” It’s also, “What happens if water gets in? Where does it go? And how does the assembly dry?”

Our blog post looks at:
🔹 Why older buildings were more forgiving of moisture
🔹 How tighter assemblies change moisture management
🔹 Why drainage and ventilation matter
🔹 How rainscreen systems create pathways for water and airflow
🔹 Why building envelope components need to work together as a system
🔹 What should be considered during design

You can’t assume moisture will never get into an assembly. Good design plans for what happens when it does.

Columbus architects, your October 27th just got better.

The Full Assembly is coming to town on Tuesday, October 27 with a full day of continuing education followed by a few hours of Topgolf.

The education portion includes three LU/HSW credits covering:
• Multifamily noise control
• Building envelope performance
• Masonry moisture management

Sessions are led by Keene Building Products experts and regional partners who work with these systems in the real world.

Then at 2:00, the classroom gives way to the golf bays with drinks, golf, and conversation on us!

Come for the credits. Stay for the golf. Leave knowing something you didn't when you arrived.

Cedar shakes and shingles have been protecting buildings for hundreds of years. But behind the finished surface, the assembly still must manage moisture, drainage, and ventilation.

Our ViperVent® CDR drainage and ventilation mat creates a continuous airspace behind cedar shakes and shingles, providing a path for drainage and ventilation within the assembly.

And we’ll be talking cedar, moisture, and what happens behind the surface in Chicago for the 2026 Cedar Shake & Shingle Bureau (CSSB) Annual Tradeshow, starting tomorrow.

Does your stucco wall have a drainage system?

A drainage cavity isn't the whole story. Neither is a weep screed by itself.

For stucco assemblies, the drainage plane and the weep screed must work together as part of a continuous path for incidental moisture.

Our latest blog post breaks down the 2021 IRC code requirements, the two drainage compliance paths, and why the connection between the drainage plane and the wall's discharge point matters.

Water doesn't care what's on your specification sheet - it follows the path you give it.
