Change needs creativity. Over 200 species of ants, around 270 species of birds, and the constant hum of insects: our responsibly managed forests in Prata, Brazil, are teeming with life in its smallest and most fascinating forms.
Insects are vital bioindicators. The greater the biodiversity, the healthier the habitat for both flora and fauna. And the numbers speak for themselves:
30 years ago we started tracking the animal species in our managed forests. Since then the variety of bird species has doubled to around 270. From the majestic rhea to vibrantly colored toucans and tiny hummingbirds such as the Planalto hermit, all of them have found a home here.
Our 8,200 hectares of forest, a quarter of which remains untouched, are far more than a source of raw materials. They are a living habitat and a symbol of what's possible when creativity, responsibility and nature conservation go hand in hand. On World Nature Conservation Day, we celebrate this rich biodiversity in our responsibly managed forests!
