How it feels sketching on paper in 2026 😭. A huge goal for us is to start doing some work in sketchup to provide detailed drawings to our customers! I am starting to really see the benefit in that. And pair it with a fireball tool table 👀. But what software do you fabricators use? Let me know!

How to heavy haul on the welding bed 🔥. This method does work suprisingly well, especially with a heavier crossmemeber. I don’t quite trust the goal post for anything over 1,000 lbs. What would be a better way to do this??

How to make curved sqr/rec tube! Is this time consuming? Yes. Is it about the only way to get this look? Yes. I can’t imagine rolling tubing this tight and still have clean surfaces. Have you ever tried this??

Can you polish powder coat?? I have heard rumors that you could - but have always been scared to try. After getting a complaint on a rail I recently installed, I figured I’d give it a try. I did a 2,000 grit wet sand & slight buff. It did take some of the finish away, but the roughness was gone! And for this application that was just fine. Who else has done this? Any tips??

Fabricators! Jigs are a commonly used and created thing around the shop. This is an example of something I use as a picket jig to ensure my inside spacing is correct. What jigs do you use? Are jigs even necessary??

After landing the job, first thing on the ticket is to go look at the jobsite. From general site layout to pulling some hard measurements, it’s a good start to get your head in the game. With MC Metal works, we aren’t a fab shop that is going to look at the plans and send you some steel. We will be there on-site, shoulder to shoulder, to make our part of the project as seamless as possible for the contractor, framer, and other crews.

Yup, I messed up. I don’t build in the shop super often so there is a little bit of a learning curve. I had this post in the wrong location which meant I had to redo it & also redo my bottom runner. Sucks, but now it’s right & it’s on to the next. You ever mess up like this??

How do I unload all of this steel from my truck?? It’s not a very big secret. A proper forklift would be so beneficial in so many ways. What do you think, forklift or reach lift? 🤔🤔
