A Simple Rule: Maintenance vs. Repair

Here’s an easy way to think about it:

DIY = maintenance and basic troubleshooting.

Professional = opening the equipment, repairing components, working with refrigerant, gas, or high-voltage electricity, or making major system modifications.

If you find yourself asking, “I wonder what this part does?” while holding a screwdriver over your HVAC system, that’s probably a good time to put the screwdriver down.

Your HVAC system is complicated equipment. Guessing at a repair can turn a relatively inexpensive service call into a much more expensive repair.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with checking your filter, thermostat, breakers, vents, and outdoor unit before calling for help.

In fact, those simple checks can sometimes solve the problem.

TRADE TIP TUESDAY: Got Tree Roots? Check Your Sewer Line.

Tree roots don’t usually invade a perfectly intact sewer pipe. They take advantage of cracks, separated joints, or other small defects to get inside.

Once they’re in, roots can grow, catch debris, restrict flow, and eventually cause a nasty sewer backup. 😬

And here’s the important part: clearing the roots doesn’t necessarily fix the problem. If the pipe defect is still there, the roots can come right back.

🚨 Signs you may have a root problem:
• Recurring sewer clogs
• Multiple slow drains
• Gurgling toilets
• Sewer backups
• Problems that return shortly after being cleared

Our tip: If you keep dealing with the same sewer blockage, stop treating the symptom and find out what’s causing it.

A sewer camera inspection can help identify roots, cracks, separated joints, offsets, and other problems hiding underground.
