The start of this school year has been a challenging one, yet my focus and drive remain unshaken. I’m pushing forward, grounded by a passion that can weather any storm. With every step, I'm drawing closer to some incredible projects that I can't wait to share with all of you. Today, I’m excited to offer a sneak peek at the final two book covers of the Beautiful Soul series. They’re nearly complete, and soon I’ll be able to release them, filled with the heart and soul poured into these stories, for all to hopefully be inspired by. Here’s a short excerpt from both:

The Rebirth: “ Life is like the wet paint on a do it by number puzzle: just an unfinished mixture of beginnings and endings that run together… that when completed, if ever completed, is supposed to tell a story."

The Awakening: “ She wanted me to protect her from herself, yet this was the only way I knew how: to let her go to the spaces where she was conflicted in order to comprehend her soul’s wishes."

There was a slight pause in recording our podcast Transforming Education, but this weekend marked a powerful return, with seven fresh episodes in the can, ready for launch. Season 3 will start this week, and each episode is brimming with conversations and “inspired connections” that light up my spirit, especially with all the "beautiful souls" I’ve met recently in places like Calgary and Toronto. Tonight’s “Peeps” Dinner in NYC is another chance to deepen those connections, and I feel truly blessed for the friendships and inspiration this journey brings.

Despite facing some deeper health challenges that I know I will heal from, I haven’t stopped writing, creating, or dreaming forward. There’s much on the horizon, including announcements I’m eager to share: a transformative educational framework I’ve been building for years that is finally complete, a new podcast that's bold, fresh, and "dope" (as my students would say!), and the completion of my fifth book, Whispers in the Rain (which actually has some publisher interest!). For educators, a small but essential SEL starter handbook is also coming soon. And Brian Ackley and I are pressing ahead to finish SEL is NOT a Color Chart, with a release set for next September.

Yesterday, I had the joy of seeing The Lion King on Broadway with my dear friend Tracy Borreson. I was reminded of the resilience and spirit of the characters, who teach us that life’s challenges are a part of our journey, not a detour. Like Rafiki says, “The past can hurt. But the way I see it, you can either run from it or learn from it.” I’m choosing to learn, to keep creating, to grow, to elevate, to discover, and to embrace every inspired connection along the way. It’s not about avoiding life’s obstacles but finding purpose and meaning in them.

Thank you for being part of this journey with me. Here’s to another year of resilience, inspired connection, and loving each other unconditionally in order to reach for something greater.

In the quiet moments sitting here listening to my heartbeat… in the spaces in between… I've found myself face-to-face with a truth both liberating and terrifying: my greatest obstacles were never external, but rather the assumptions I held so tightly within.

This journey of unlearning has been painful, beautiful, and profoundly transformative. It's led me through the shadows of loss, the light of self-discovery, and ultimately, to a vision of education that could change everything.

In my latest article, "Unlearning to Learn," I bare my soul (maybe a bit too much) and challenge the very foundations of how we think about learning, growth, and human potential.

This isn't just my story. It's an invitation: to question, to unlearn, to dare to imagine education as a path of spiritual growth and self-discovery.

To those who've been part of my journey… those who've stayed, those who've left, those who've taught me through their presence and their absence… this is for you. And for all of us who believe in the power of education to transform not just minds, but hearts and souls.

Are you ready to question everything?

It's been a rough few weeks.

The emotional roller coaster of my heart and the growing pains of this journey have been intense. Yet, despite it all, I continue to plow forward.

Why?

Because I believe in this dream, this vision of transforming education globally. At the very least, I want to see the blueprint completed and the visionary team assembled before this lifetime is up.

That's why I write articles like this one... to get the message out, to spark a global conversation, to ignite a movement.

This piece... it feels like the most important one I've written yet. But then again, they each do. Every word is a step towards that vision, every sentence a building block for a better future.

I wish to share it with you because I believe that you, too, can feel the urgency of this mission. This isn't just my dream... it's a calling that resonates across borders and cultures.

As you read "Uniting for Change," I invite you to see yourself as part of this story. Whether you're an educator, a parent, a student, or simply someone who believes in the power of learning to change lives, your voice matters in this global chorus for change.

Are you ready to join this journey? To be part of a movement that could reshape the future of education, and with it, the future of our world?

Let's make this vision a reality, together.

As I sit here, reflecting on the countless faces I've encountered in classrooms, and educational systems I have studied from Haiti to Helsinki, I'm struck by a profound realization: every single one of us carries within us a spark of infinite potential. It's a spark I've seen ignite in the eyes of a shy student finding their voice, in the proud smile of a struggling reader turned poet, in the determined gaze of educators reimagining what's possible. This journey through the world of education has shown me that we're on the brink of something revolutionary.

In my latest article, "Unleashing Infinite Potential," I pour out my heart about what I've learned, the innovations I've witnessed, and the future I believe is possible if we dare to dream big for our learners. It's more than just an article to me... it's a testament to the transformative power of education when we put passion and purpose at its core.

I invite you to read it, to reflect, to comment, and to join me in this mission to unlock the genius within every learner. Because when we tap into that infinite potential, we don't just change individual lives... we change the world.

As I stood in a makeshift classroom in the mountains of Haiti, watching students who had walked miles barefoot just to attend school, a profound realization hit me. The same spark of curiosity, the same thirst for knowledge that I saw in the eyes of privileged students in New York City, burned just as brightly here.

It was in that moment that I truly understood: genius isn't confined to any one place, culture, or circumstance. It's within every learner, waiting to be unlocked.
But how do we unlock it? How do we nurture the unique potential in each student, whether they're sitting in a high-tech classroom or under the shade of a tree?

These questions have driven my work for years, leading me to explore innovative approaches to education around the globe. In my latest article, "Unlocking the Genius Within," I dive deep into the transformative power of personalized learning.

From the streets of NYC to the mountain villages of Haiti, from conversations with visionaries to groundbreaking research, this piece weaves together insights that challenge our traditional notions of education.

If you've ever wondered why our education system often feels like it's failing our children, or if you're curious about what's possible when we truly embrace each learner's uniqueness, this article is for you.

Join me in exploring how we can revolutionize education to unlock the genius within every learner. Because I believe that when we do this, we don't just change individual lives... we change the world.

I know what you're thinking: "Not another COVID article." Trust me, I get it. We're all exhausted by the endless stream of pandemic talk. But hear me out, because this might be the most important piece I've written about our education system in years.

What if I told you that in our rush to "get back to normal," we've missed a once-in-a-generation opportunity to transform education? That in our eagerness to move on, we've overlooked the chance to address deep-rooted issues that have plagued our schools for decades?

This isn't just another rehashing of pandemic woes. It's a critical look at how society's collective amnesia and complacency might be the real pandemic we're facing.

In my latest article, "The Missed Reset: Reimagining Education in a Post-Pandemic World," I dive into uncomfortable truths about our education system, exploring questions that many are afraid to ask:

🔀 Are we creating a "COVID diploma" generation ill-equipped for the real world?

🔀 What if the real conspiracy isn't about the virus, but our willingness to accept a broken status quo?

🔀 How many more mental health crises, dropouts, and disillusioned students will it take before we admit that "normal" wasn't working?

This piece isn't for the faint of heart. It's for those who dare to imagine a better future for our children, who aren't afraid to challenge the system, and who believe that education can and should be transformative.

If you're tired of sugar-coated narratives and are ready for some hard truths and bold ideas, then this article is for you. Let's start a real conversation about the future of education.

Are you ready to hit reset? IN the immortal words of my favorite television President, Jed Bartlet, "What's Next?"

In the eerie quiet of empty classrooms and silent playgrounds, as the world grappled with the initial shock of the COVID-19 pandemic, a peculiar thought emerged from the chaos: What if this global pause could be more than just a temporary hold on our lives? [Photo Below: A school entrance sign stating that staff are armed and trained to protect students]

This image stopped me in my tracks when I drove by it last week.

Dear Readers, what you're about to read might be controversial, but if we're serious about transforming education, we need to have this conversation.

During my recent travels, I came across this sign at a school entrance. It boldly declared that staff were armed and prepared to do whatever necessary to protect their students. My heart sank. Is this really where we are as a society? Is the solution to violence in schools really more weapons, now in the hands of our educators?

Something feels fundamentally wrong about this approach. Are we addressing the root causes of violence, or are we perpetuating a cycle of fear and potential harm? In schools where social and emotional support are already lacking, does the presence of weapons truly make our children safer, or does it create an environment of underlying tension and anxiety?

These are the questions that have been keeping me up at night, and they've led me to write an article that dives deep into the complex issues surrounding school safety and gun violence in America's educational settings. From recent threats in South Jersey to the tragic shooting in Georgia, we're facing a crisis that demands our immediate attention and thoughtful action.

In this piece, we explore various perspectives on school safety, from immediate responses to threats, to long-term strategies for creating safer learning environments. We even look at approaches from other countries, like Japan, to see what we might learn.

This is a topic that's close to my heart, and one that we'll be discussing further in our upcoming podcast with Brian Ackley. Season 3 of "Transforming Education" will delve deeper into these critical issues.

I invite you to read the article with an open mind and heart. Whether you agree with every point or not, I hope it sparks meaningful, respectful, well-intentioned dialogue. Because our children's safety and well-being are at stake, and it's up to all of us to find a better way forward.

Let's start this conversation. What are your thoughts on school safety measures? How can we protect our children while also creating nurturing, positive learning environments?

As I sit here at the end of the first week back in the school system, I find myself thoroughly exhausted... yet profoundly inspired. This week has been a whirlwind of emotions, challenges, and unexpected blessings.

Standing as a beacon of love in a system that often feels apathetic and broken is no small task. There were moments when the weight of it all threatened to dim my light. But then, like rays of sunshine breaking through storm clouds, came reminders of why this journey matters:

A marketing meeting brimming with exciting strategies for our mission. An unexpected nomination for a Visionary in Education award. Recording the first two podcast segments for Season 3 of "Transforming Education." Plans for a new podcast series based on the Beautiful Soul books. And the upcoming release of Book 3 in that series.

Amidst this flurry of activity, I had an epiphany: Self-care isn't just important... it's absolutely crucial. It's the foundation upon which all of this work stands.
This means committing to daily healthy eating (I'm not perfect, but I'm on the right track). It means carving out time for meditation and affirmations that reprogram my subconscious. It means an unwavering dedication to alternative medicines and modalities that heal me physically, mentally, and spiritually.

In short, loving myself and prioritizing my well-being must come first. Above EVERYTHING else. Because none of this matters... none of it is sustainable... if I don't put myself first... and the same goes for each of you my friends. I ask, what are you doing to nurture your soul today?

That's why my latest article in the series on transforming education focuses on the critical importance of self-care and self-development for educators. We can't pour from an empty cup, and we can't transform a system if we're running on fumes.

I invite you to read "The Unwavering Path." Whether you're an educator, a parent, or simply someone passionate about positive change, I believe you'll find insights that resonate with your own journey.

Remember, taking care of yourself isn't selfish... it's the most selfless thing you can do for those you serve. Let's commit to shining our lights brightly, starting with nurturing the flame within.

🎙️Special Episode Announcement: A Dream Out Loud Conversation 📚

I am beyond excited to share our final special episode of Season 2 of "Transforming Education!" This is something I've envisioned for quite some time, and it's finally coming to fruition. Over the past two years, Brian Ackley and I have engaged in deep discussions about the pressing issues facing teachers, administrators, and parents, all while navigating the systemic challenges that often feel like a pandemic in themselves. At the heart of it all, though, is the imperative to put students at the center of learning.

In this episode, we dive into the inspiring impact of The Annual Dream Out Loud Youth Conference, a transformative event where teenagers become teachers for the day. This conference exemplifies how youth can shape their own education and futures. I am thrilled to welcome two incredible former students, Veronica and Rosalind, who participated as instructors in their class, "Life After High School." Their insights and experiences are a testament to the power of youth voice and leadership!

🌈 Dream Out Loud: A Conversation on Education

Dream Out Loud is an annual 'by students for students' conference where teenagers express themselves while being educated and guided to make healthy choices. In our conversation, Vero and Roz share their journeys, the impact of their experiences at the conference, and how it has shaped their perspectives on education.

But there's more! A little foreshadowing for what's to come:

In 2025, after releasing the final two books in the Beautiful Soul series and "Whispers in the Rain," Brian and I will be finishing our upcoming book, "SEL is NOT Just a Color Chart." This project will showcase transformative strategies for education, featuring real-life stories from former students like Vero and Roz, highlighting how our programs have made a difference in their lives.

Join us for this inspirational conversation that embodies the spirit of youth empowerment and the potential for transformative change in education!

As we gear up for Season 3 of "Transforming Education," we've been experimenting with some bonus episodes that deviate from our usual format. This has allowed Brian Ackley and I to explore new ideas and test out different approaches. We're thrilled to share that one of these experiments turned out even better than we could have imagined!

In this special episode, we decided to take a fresh approach by bringing together a panel representing the perspectives of a parent, a teacher, and an administrator to discuss standardized testing. The outcome was nothing short of inspiring, and I found myself in awe of the profound insights and professional backgrounds of our guests. Every time I listen to this episode, I learn something else! So much value!

🎙️Reflective Bonus Episode: Panel Discussion on Standardized Testing🎙️

Meet our incredible panelists:

Barbara Spalding: As a mother of two and the founder of Family Scholastic Adventures, Barbara brings a wealth of experience in supporting academic enrichment outside the classroom. Her perspective is shaped by her children’s diverse educational experiences in New Jersey and Maryland.

Debbie Gibbs: Retired from the NYC school system as an IEP Special Ed Coordinator, Debbie has a rich background in special education and best practices. Her career also includes teaching at LaGuardia Community College. With her wealth of experience, Debbie offers a deep understanding of the challenges and nuances of standardized testing.

Kristin Hurlock: With 24 years in education, Kristin’s journey from social studies teacher to her current role as an Assistant Principal in Maryland provides valuable insights into the impact of standardized testing on both teaching and administration. Her experience with the Teacher Academy of Maryland program further enriches our discussion.

Our goal with this episode is to spark meaningful global conversations about the issues and experiences surrounding standardized testing. We hope to contribute to the ongoing effort to create a better education system for all.
Tune in to this enlightening panel discussion and join us as we continue our mission to transform education through diverse perspectives and collaborative dialogue. 🎙️🌍
