Vector is honored to announce the recipient of the 2025 Commander’s Coin, Angelo Foust from the Toledo, OH Sewer Cam team. Angelo’s bravery and quick action helped save the life of a member of the public.
On April 30th, 2025, Angelo Foust reported to work as usual. Upon arrival, they completed their paperwork and set up the work zone. As they began their daily tasks, their morning took an unexpected turn. While out locating, Angelo heard the screech of brakes followed by a loud crash. Realizing that the busy Brancroft Street was just a block away, Angelo radioed his fellow crew member, Rene, suggesting they check for an accident and see if emergency services were needed. As they rounded the corner, they saw a severe accident. One driver was slumped over the steering wheel, unconscious. Rene immediately called 911 and retrieved the first aid kit and AED from the camera truck. Angelo approached the vehicle but found the door jammed due to the collision. Other motorists and pedestrians stopped to help, with one pedestrian assisting Angelo in trying to open the doors. Suddenly, the car began to smoke, and a nearby homeowner shouted that the front of the car was catching fire. The pedestrian quickly fetched a wrench from his car and broke the driver's side window.
Together, Angelo and the pedestrian pulled the driver out and moved him across the street to safety. Within a minute, the car was engulfed in flames. Rene returned with the first aid kit and AED, and together, they managed to revive the driver, who was injured and coughing up blood. Just as Rene prepared the AED, the rescue squad arrived and took over. Several officers and firefighters commended Rene and Angelo, thanking them repeatedly for their life-saving actions.
Please join us in congratulating Angelo for his outstanding actions.
