Employee Spotlight — Alex Tafur

Meet Alex Tafur, Configuration Management Lead for meshONE‑T. A little over two years with Apogee and based in Southern California, Alex supports a global data‑transport backbone for the Space Systems Command (SSC) that ensures critical information moves where it needs to go.

Alex wears three hats (Configuration Management, Data Management, and Knowledge Management) and manages four government SharePoint sites. He focuses on transforming raw data into user‑friendly dashboards that give senior government leaders a single place to see status, assess risk, and make fast, informed decisions.

What he loves most is tackling complex challenges, designing creative, practical solutions, and helping teammates work more effectively. He values Apogee’s supportive, mission‑driven culture and encourages new employees to dive in, stay humble, be teachable, and collaborate.

Outside of work Alex is a proud family man: married with three kids (22, 19, 16). Weekends are for the beach, hikes, movies, and anything on the water. Join us in thanking Alex for his leadership and commitment!

Spent the morning out at the Trap & S***t range with my Fixed Wing teammates for some team building, friendly competition, fresh air, and some great team camaraderie!

After a successful FY26, we’re heading into the new fiscal year with our sights set on what’s ahead. Safe to say, the Fixed Wing team is laser focused on FY27! 🎯

We're proud to spotlight Zeliha Zengin, who has been with Apogee since August 2023! Three years of dedication and impact! Zeliha combines senior-level teaching with creative learning design, reaching students with diverse learning styles and needs. As an instructor in Apogee's Cyber Combat Course (C3), she consistently goes above and beyond, always looking for new ways to contribute to the program and to the success of the U.S. Space Force Guardians she trains. She's authored nearly 50 cybersecurity articles on Medium, built an interactive cybersecurity tool hub, hosted on GitHub, where students can test tools hands-on, and even started a LinkedIn group focused on cybersecurity to grow community and conversations.

What Zeliha loves most about her work is setting clear goals for each class and watching students grow. She's currently teaching her eighth class and takes great pride in seeing students' confidence and success rates rise as they meet the goals she sets with them. On the day of our interview, while her students were taking an exam, Zeliha cooked them a comforting taste of home with Turkish cuisine, a small gesture that builds stronger connections and creates a welcoming learning environment.

Outside of work, Zeliha enjoys time with family and close friends, cycling, hiking, walking, reading, and cooking. She's always eager to learn and create, is passionate about her work, and is intentionally building a healthier work/life balance. She describes Apogee's culture as friendly and supportive: a place where her passion for teaching and cybersecurity can thrive.

"I spoke today at Wright State University for the NCMS Wright Flyer Chapter Annual Seminar. My topic was bridging the gap between security professionals and the C-suite, turning technical risk into language leadership can use. The Wright Flyers are Chapter 42 of NCMS, chartered in 2009 around Wright-Patterson’s research and tech mission. More than 200 members now, contractors and WPAFB civilians. Honored to represent Apogee there."

Employee Spotlight: Meet Gokhan Karadag: Senior Cyber Security Operations Analyst & Facilitator based in Colorado Springs. Next month Gokhan celebrates three years with Apogee. A typical day for him means building immersive C3 labs, leading hands‑on cybersecurity training, and collaborating with the facilitator team to turn theory into practical skills for U.S. Space Force Guardians. What he loves most is watching students grow. Many arrive with limited experience and leave more confident and capable.

Outside work, family is his greatest motivation: he’s happiest fishing, biking, gardening, and writing short stories for his children. He also runs two LinkedIn cybersecurity groups to give back to the community. Gokhan describes Apogee’s culture as collaborative and supportive of continuous learning; his advice to new teammates is simple: prioritize a healthy work/life balance.

Meet Josh Sawyers: Assistant Facility Security Officer (AFSO), who joined Apogee in December 2025. Josh helps manage and support our security program, overseeing day to day operations including personnel security, initiating clearances, and SEAD 3 reporting. He also develops security training to better serve our cleared individuals, which in turn strengthens our security program. A six-year Air Force veteran, his background spans special operations aircraft maintenance on the CV-22 Osprey, as well as C2 Command and Control Ops – experience that has shaped his direct and mission focused mindset.

What Josh loves most about his role, is the importance of it. Security isn’t always the most visible part of an organization, but it is absolutely one of the most important. Protecting people, information, and the mission makes him proud of what he does. He recently attended the 2026 NCMS Event, learning about big changes coming soon for Continuous Vetting. Josh also completed his first Security Vulnerability Assessment (SVA) with DCSA, receiving a Commendable rating. Outside of work, you’ll find him at the Garden of the Gods trails, rock climbing, or spending time with family.

Josh credits Ashley Wiltse (FSO) for hands-on mentorship and for providing the opportunity to strengthen and develop new skills. He says Apogee is different! Here, security is treated like it matters…because it does! Join us in thanking Josh for his commitment!
