Employee Spotlight: Gianni Truscelli. Gianni Truscelli joined ZymeCO as a production technician. He has a solid set of hands-on experience in manufacturing, shipping and receiving, inventory control, and SAP ERP-driven production support and brings a blended set of experiences built across warehouse, manufacturing, and logistics roles. At ZymeCo, he will put both prior experiences and his time as a contract employee to use in supporting daily production operations, helping to keep materials flowing smoothly and getting a high-quality product to our customers.

Breaking down lignin is only the beginning of managing residue after harvest.

Once laccase opens the tough lignin barrier, the inner plant fibers become accessible to the soil’s natural biology. Microbes colonize these exposed layers and produce cellulases and hemicellulases. Unlike laccase’s broad, cascading action on lignin, cellulases and hemicellulases work more selectively, cutting specific bonds in the exposed plant fibers. Sugars are released from the enzyme action that microbes use for energy and growth.

As this cycle continues, plant-available nutrients return to the soil, carbon feeds beneficial microbes and contributes to soil organic matter, and less residue remains to interfere with crop emergence.

Effective residue management does more than reduce excess residue on surface. It helps turn this year’s residue into healthier soil and a more uniform start for next year’s crop.

You pay for every seed in the bag. Managing residue after harvest this fall can help more of that investment reach its potential next spring.

Heavy residue creates a physical barrier that obstructs seedlings as they emerge. Breaking down that barrier starts with lignin, the tough structural material protecting the outside of the stalk. TillZyme uses laccase to break down lignin, opening the rest of the plant to native soil biology to continue the process.

When TillZyme is applied to corn residue, corn stand the following year improved by 7-11% or more than 3,000 plants per acre. More plants means more potential for yield at the end of the year.

Last year’s residue can remain an obstacle or become an asset. Breaking down lignin this fall is the first step toward unlocking its value for next year’s crop.
