Ever wonder what happens when a roadway needs more than just a few patches?

Our reclamation crew is rebuilding this roadway from the ground up! Using Cement Modified Recycled Base (CMRB), the reclaimer mixes Portland cement into the existing roadway to create a stronger, more stable subgrade for the new pavement.

Here’s the process:
➡️ Spread Portland cement over the existing roadway
➡️ Mix it approximately 12" deep
➡️ Introduce water to help the cement cure
➡️ Compact with a sheepsfoot roller
➡️ Grade the roadway
➡️ Finish with a smooth drum roller
➡️ Chip seal the base

And what’s next? The paving crew takes it from here!

Ms. Kim is out on Garners Ferry collecting core samples, one of the most important steps in our quality control process. These samples allow our QC team to test the mat density throughout the project, ensuring our pavement meets South Carolina DOT specifications and contract requirements.

It's this attention to detail that helps us deliver quality roads our communities can rely on.

Shoutout to Brock Dawkins for making a preventative maintenance stop in the field to keep our crews moving. Team members like Brock are the foundation of our culture!

And that's a wrap on our 2026 Summer Internship Program! ☀️

This summer, we had an incredible group of interns working alongside our team, gaining hands-on experience in the heavy highway industry. It has been exciting to watch their confidence grow, their skills develop, and their hard work make a positive impact.

We wrapped up the summer with a little friendly competition, plenty of team bonding, and great fellowship. We're thankful for everything these interns brought to our team, and we hope this won't be the last time we see them at C.R. Jackson.

Best of luck this semester, we can't wait to see what the future holds for each of you!

Mitchell Dixon is out on Garners Ferry measuring the length of our freshly paved roadway to ensure we're meeting every requirement of the paving contract. From the first load of asphalt to the final measurements, our team is committed to delivering quality work that meets the highest standards.

It's all part of making sure every project is built right from start to finish.

Justin Holmes' crew is putting in the work on night shift at our Hwy. 521 project. They're keeping the job moving and making steady progress every night. We appreciate the effort and commitment from the entire crew!

Rain may slow us down, but it doesn't stop us.
After recent heavy rainfall, our crews are out on I-26 removing sediment from the ditches. Thanks to the assistance of the Vac-Truck, we're able to tackle cleanup quickly and efficiently. This helps us maintain progress and improve the quality of the job.
It's just another example of the work happening behind the scenes to keep this project moving.

We're always looking for better ways to get the job done, and this is one of them.

Our crews are using Concrete Canvas® on the I-26 project, an innovative alternative to traditional concrete that's helping us build durable drainage channels faster and more efficiently. It helps prevent w**d growth, reduce erosion, and limit silt buildup, making it a smart solution for long-term roadway maintenance.

It's just one more way we're combining hard work with innovative technology to build an interstate that will serve South Carolina for years to come.

Round of applause for Macio Cooper and Justin Holmes' crews! 👏
With 24-hour lane closures and teams working around the clock, these crews came together to keep our Guignard Drive project moving forward. Macio Cooper's crew handled the milling and paving of the binder at night, and Justin Holmes' crew followed up by paving the surface during the day.
Talk about teamwork! It takes coordination, dedication, and a lot of hard work to keep a project moving on this schedule. Great work, team!

We're incredibly proud of the work our interns have been doing this summer. They've gained hands-on experience across every part of our operation, and it's been great to watch them learn, grow, and contribute to our team.
