GMK Interiors recently completed a renovation at The Woodlands at Furman in Greenville, SC. What was once a small art room is now The Kendrick Coffee Bistro, a cozy café-style space designed with the Assisted Living residents of the wing, in mind.

The project also included updates to the Assisted Living - Living Room and Corridor, creating a more cohesive and welcoming environment throughout the AL Wing.

The inspiration: a hint of English pub charm, balanced with a light, airy, and timeless feel that keeps the spaces warm, functional, and safe for everyday use.

The long-awaited follow-up to our November 2025 video post… the details behind the GMK Interiors DesignWorks win.

At the (IIDA) International Interior Design Association Carolinas DesignWorks Awards, our 718 Lady Street Office Renovation received the “Beauty on a Budget” award.

The category challenge:
• Project under 10,000 SF
• Hard construction costs under $60/SF (excluding FF&E and fees)
In other words — do a lot with a little.

The renovation focused on strategic design moves: fresh wall finishes, custom millwork at (and above) the reception and breakroom, decorative lighting, and acoustical feature walls in the boardroom, meeting room, and lobby.

The full project also included new furniture, signage, and artwork for the Cornerstone Wealth team, though those elements weren’t part of the judging criteria.

Proof that thoughtful design, a little creativity, and a willingness to think outside the box can still deliver a one-of-a-kind space… even on a budget.

We are excited to share that the restored historic porches are now re-installed and looking great on the rehabilitation of the historic Building 10 at the W.J.B. Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia, SC.

The rehabilitation of the original W.J.B Dorn’s nurses quarters has been one of GMK's signature architectural design efforts for the Department of Veterans Affairs and has included converting the existing 25,000-sf building listed as part of a historic district in the National Register of Historic Places for use as a new and modern primary care facility.

While the interior rehabilitation was completed by the early 2020s, the historic north, east and west porches of the building had been undergoing painstaking off-site restoration by a specialty craft contractor. Once completed, GMK was tasked by the Department of Veterans Affairs to complete further designs for re-installing the porches, along with other additional building enhancements such as the addition of EV charging stations.

Rehabilitation of Building 10 is now entirely complete, and the building is now fully operational.
