Come to the Ohio State Fair!

Over the past two years, hundreds of George J. Igel & Co., Inc. employees transformed the Ohio Expo Center & State Fairgrounds while working around countless events and a firm opening-day deadline.

Together, our construction professionals contributed more than 200,000 man-hours, placing over 25,000 cubic yards of concrete, 50,000 tons of asphalt, and five miles of underground pipe. We built sidewalks, curbs, parking lots, waterlines, storm infrastructure, decorative brick pavers, and even the foundations for the new carousel.

This project showcases the teamwork, craftsmanship, and more than 115 years of experience that define George J. Igel & Co., Inc.
Our employees and their families will walk through for years to come, and remember the effort it took to bring this job to completion.

Building more than projects. Building memories.

This past Saturday, we had the pleasure of hosting our annual Igel Family Fun Day, bringing together our employees, retirees, and their families for an afternoon of fun, food, and fellowship.

From inflatables, touch-a-truck, bumper cars, and face painting to food trucks, Kona Ice, caricatures, and plenty of laughter, it was a great opportunity to step away from the jobsite and spend quality time with the people who make our company what it is.

At Igel, we know our success is built by our people. Family Fun Day is one small way we can say thank you to the employees and families who support us every day.

A sincere thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered, and helped make this year's event such a success. We hope you made some wonderful memories, and we can't wait to do it again next year!

The Ohio State University track and field team got a new hammer throw last week. Not your everyday project, but our crews met the exacting athletic specifications, and it turned out great!

Coach Coleman was a pleasure to work with and said, "Could not have asked for a better result."

The infrastructure behind an infrastructure construction company...

Our HR, IT, Estimating, and Accounting departments recently enjoyed a Clippers game together. These peeps may not move dirt or pour concrete, but they play a vital role in keeping the company running smoothly—paying bills, fixing computers, supporting employees, and handling countless behind-the-scenes responsibilities.

It takes a team! 👏

Throwback Thursday

The comfort and safety features of construction machinery have changed a lot since the ’50s! We’re buying equipment with heated and air-conditioned cabs, along with easy-ride seats. A LOT more comfortable!

This Memorial Day, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

Their courage, dedication, and selflessness have protected the freedoms we enjoy every day, and we are forever grateful for their sacrifice.

As we spend time with family and friends this weekend, we encourage everyone to take a moment to reflect on the true meaning of Memorial Day and remember those who gave everything for our nation.

From all of us at Igel, thank you to our fallen heroes and the families who continue to carry their legacy forward.

ODOT SR 315 Slide Repair – Delaware County

This project is called a “slip repair.” The original roadway was cut into the side of the hill/riverbank. The outside of the road consists of dirt fill placed along the hillside to create the level road width. Over time, that wedge of dirt can break off and “slip” down into the river. ODOT monitors roadways for signs of failure (and although it hurts, thank you, gas tax!) and mitigates the issues it finds.

ODOT designed piles — drilled holes filled with concrete with a steel beam inserted — to create something like a “picket fence” to hold that wedge from slipping.

Our crews have shut down the road — sorry for the 120-day inconvenience — while drilling and installing a line of more than 600 piles to prevent a future failure.

Although inconvenient, completing this repair is far less costly and disruptive than having the road slip into the river!

We are proud to help keep our infrastructure in great condition. It takes teamwork and planning to drill, transport materials, and complete a job like this!
