Ohio’s Electric Cooperatives (OEC) is the wholesale power supplier and statewide services association for the 25 electric cooperatives that serve more than 400,000 homes and businesses across the state of Ohio. At OEC, we strive to educate Ohioans on the importance of maintaining a reliable, affordable and environmentally responsible source of electricity by taking an integrated approach to power

generation, and serve as a resource for information about the safe use of electricity, the importance of cooperative membership, and the principles by which all electric cooperatives operate. Content shared by OEC is meant to be educational and informative, and we encourage our followers to engage in productive and respectful conversation with us and each other. However, OEC reserves the right to block and/or report users that make any of the following offenses:
• Use of language that is hateful, harassing, threatening, abusive, vulgar, racist, sexist, or discriminatory;

Co-ops are special for many reasons, and one of the greatest is their concern for others. Co-ops commonly work behind the scenes to help the people and communities they serve. After all, Concern for Community is one of the seven principles all co-ops were built on and operate by.

Since the first electric co-op community support fund was created in 1993, more than $26.5 MILLION has been donated by co-ops to local organizations, projects, charitable causes, and individuals in need. Not only do co-ops provide reliable electricity at-cost to their members, but they’re also giving back where they can, when they can, to those who need it most.

It’s almost time for NRECA’s Cooperative Youth Tour! This year, Ohio co-ops are sponsoring 44 local high school students to attend Youth Tour – a week-long, all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C., where they’ll learn all about the cooperative business model, meet with the policymakers who represent their communities, and get to know other cooperative students from across the country.

One of our co-ops, Buckeye Rural Electric Cooperative, is participating in the OVEC Kyger Creek Safety & Health Expo today, joining employees and contractors from across the industry for a day focused on safety, training, and education. The event is hosted by OVEC’s Kyger Creek Generating Station, one of the power plants that supplies power to Buckeye Power, the generation and transmission cooperative that provides wholesale electricity to Ohio’s 24 electric cooperatives.

Thanks to Kyger Creek Generating Station for hosting this event that promotes safe work practices and safety education, and to Buckeye REC for participating today by conducting live line demonstrations!

Ohio's Electric Cooperatives is a proud sponsor of the Ohio 4-H Achievement Awards and the 2026 Healthy Living Achievement Award, this year given to Sydney Hall of Butler County! Sydney started her 4-H career at age seven and quickly found her passion for healthy living, nutrition, and sports. She has since gone on to serve as her club's secretary, Health HEROS Ambassador, and Ohio 4-H Teen Leadership Council member. Sydney is a student at the University of Cincinnati, where she majors in cybersecurity and computer science.

The tech giant is partnering with Voltus in a first-of-its-kind deal that will tap EVs, smart thermostats, and batteries to help meet soaring data center demand.
