☀️A lot of times homeowners don't understand how or why certain homes use solar on their roof? Is that you? If yes, then keep reading.
Most roofs are getting sunlight during the daylight hours. Solar panels collect sunlight
during those daylight hours and they convert that sunlight into electricity. (Same concept as the solar lights in your landscaping or around house).
Those same roofs only have so much usable roof area. Gables, vent pipes, sky lights, all present area that can't be used. South & Southwest facing roof space is going to get the most direct sunlight. Panels need 4-6 hours of direct sunlight to produce most efficiently. So really you are seeing how much of your roof space is facing south or southwest. If it's a lot than congrats you are 1 of 4 homes in US.
Now on to the next factor. How much power does your home use? Big family?? Probably using a good amount. That brings more laundry, more cooking, and higher power bills. The more your usage the more panels you would need to capture that much Sun power.
If it's a 2/3 person home you probably use the average amount unless you have pools, hot tubs or electric vehicles, or anything that requires a lot of electricity. The less power you use the less number of panels you would need to power your home.

How much power does my house use? (See example in pics. It's the graph or KWH section on your bill.
Do I have enough roof space to create my usage? And is my roof suitable based on pitch, trees, other homes, buildings ect. And how much and what would my savings be now and long term on my electric bill. electric is in high demand. Power companies, businesses, & municipalities have been taking advantage of solar for decades. everything from road signs, lights, and backup power. Now you the homeowner are allowed to take advantage of the same systems.
Your meter in most cases is now set up to tie it all in together. Huge savings compared to years ago. You don't have to purchase a battery now due to your new meter.
