ZBF Geothermal in conjunction with CDM Smith and our client Lendlease have been working on the tallest multifamily project yet to install a geothermal system. This project features over 57 miles of pipe in the ground to provide heating and cooling for the 800+ apartments in the 37 story building.

ZBF is the applicant for both of the NYSERDA grants for this project, totaling over $4M.

Beach Greed Dunes II is the largest Passive House Certified building in NYC with a geothermal heating and cooling system.

ZBF Geothermal designed and oversaw the installation for this project, including providing rebate and commissioning assistance for this project.

This client wanted to maximize the height in their basement. The geothermal units ductwork was designed to be out of the way, maximizing the ceiling height in the basement. Normally a ductwork trunk would have ran under the beams to connect the two ducts, but instead we had custom designed ductwork fabricated to fit exactly into the ceiling joists to have no impact on height clearance.

Instead of using 2,200 gallons of oil a year, this client will have heating, cooling and hot water for $1,500/year

Beach Green Dunes II ribbon cutting ceremony was today. This building has a geothermal system designed, overseen, and commissioned by ZBF Geothermal.

The building is expected to lower heating and cooling costs by 75%, and the best part is the average cost to cool an apartment over the summer is $10/month, instead of hundreds a month for a conventional cooling system.

The city’s goal to create 300,000 affordable housing units and keep them truly affordable took a step in that direction with the ribbon cutting at Beach
