When the canvas is Mount Rushmore, distance becomes part of the design challenge.
Six Proteus Atlas fixtures were deployed along the Presidential Trail to create concentrated aerial beam effects across the expansive site, complementing the fireworks and interacting with the pyrotechnic smoke overhead.
It’s a powerful example of how the right fixture becomes a creative tool when scale, environment, and visibility all matter.

We had an incredible time connecting with the local lighting community, sharing ideas, and putting some of the latest Elation technology through its paces.
A standout of the day was the PROTEUS HYBRID MAX. With powerful beam, spot, and wash capabilities, a wide zoom range, and a comprehensive effects package, it delivers the flexibility to create everything from sharp aerial looks to bold washes and projections.

Extreme distances. Demanding outdoor conditions. One extraordinary setting.
For the Freedom 250 celebration at Mount Rushmore, Illuminate collaborated with Pyro Spectaculars to create a 20-minute presentation where lighting and fireworks worked together as one visual narrative.
The design called on PROTEUS Brutus, Atlas, Lucius, and Excalibur fixtures alongside PULSE PANEL FX, using everything from long-throw illumination and aerial beams to color, texture, and illuminated pyrotechnic smoke to transform the iconic memorial.

“I always start by looking at who the show is for and what message we're trying to send.”

When JR transformed Paris’s historic Pont Neuf into a monumental inflatable cave, lighting designer Fabrice “Tom” Azoulay faced an equally unconventional challenge: illuminate a constantly changing 120-meter structure, work within extremely short throw distances, support augmented-reality experiences, and keep the technical infrastructure out of sight.
Working with CANAL LED, Azoulay used Elation Chorus Line 16, Proteus Rayzor 760, Proteus Maximus, and Artiste Picasso fixtures to shape the architecture through reflected light, carefully controlled contrast, and precise illumination. From the immersive cave interior to the exterior presentation along the Seine, the goal was to make the lighting feel like a natural part of the artwork itself.
