CESI continues to invest in the latest surveying technology to better serve our clients and improve project efficiency.

This week, our survey team received two new Leica TS13 Total Stations and a Viking GPS Unit. Matt Usinger from Transit and Level Clinic, Inc. joined us to provide hands-on training and demonstrations for our field crews, ensuring we maximize the capabilities of this advanced equipment from day one.

The Leica TS13 Total Stations deliver highly accurate measurements, improved data collection, and enhanced field productivity, while the Viking GPS Unit provides precise positioning and real-time data collection capabilities. Together, these tools allow our survey crews to work more efficiently, collect higher-quality data, and reduce time spent in the field.

Investments like these help CESI deliver accurate surveys, faster project turnaround times, and the dependable results our clients expect. A big thank you to Transit & Level for helping our team stay at the forefront of surveying technology!

Today, CESI's Ashleigh Crosby attended the Cabarrus County Community Job Fair hosted by NCWorks at Carolina Mall in Concord.

This event brought together employers, job seekers, and community organizations under the theme of Jobs, Resources, and Hope—creating meaningful connections and providing valuable opportunities for individuals throughout Cabarrus County. CESI was proud to participate in this community-focused event and share information about careers in engineering, surveying, geotechnical services, construction materials testing, and related fields. Thank you to NCWorks and all the organizations that helped make this event a success!

Welcome to our new Surveying summer intern Marcus Lehmann! He joined CESI in May and is currently pursuing a degree in Surveying and Mapping Sciences at East Tennessee State University.

Marcus brings hands-on experience in construction and land development, having worked in remodeling and grown up around the custom homebuilding industry. This background supports his current role, where he assists with both field and office surveying tasks across a range of projects.

He enjoys the combination of fieldwork and drafting, noting that each project presents unique conditions and problem-solving opportunities. Marcus also values CESI’s collaborative environment, where survey and engineering teams work closely together to support project delivery.

Looking ahead, Marcus plans to complete his degree within the next two years and pursue surveying licensure to further advance his career.

CESI is pleased to welcome Lilly Whitten as a Civil Engineering Intern. She is currently a student at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNCC), pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.

Since joining CESI, Lilly has begun supporting project work while gaining exposure to the civil engineering design process and construction phase. She has quickly expressed interest in understanding how engineering plans transition from concept to real-world infrastructure, especially on projects close to home.

Her long-term goal is to become a licensed Professional Engineer (PE), and she views her internship as an important step in building technical experience and professional growth.

CESI is proud to congratulate Steven Scofield and Adam Cogar on successfully passing the Certified Survey Technician (CST) Level 1 certification exam. This achievement reflects their dedication to professional growth and continued excellence within the surveying industry.

Steven Scofield serves as a Crew Chief at CESI and brings a wealth of surveying expertise to the team. A graduate of Appalachian State University, Steven also has a passion for history and works as a historic guide in Charlotte’s Uptown district, sharing insights into the city’s landmarks and evolution from colonial times to the present day.

Adam Cogar, CESI’s very own “Snake Specialist,” serves as a Survey CADD Technician and plays an important role in supporting our survey operations. Adam earned an Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Mitchell Community College and continues to demonstrate a strong commitment to technical excellence and professional development.
