🔴 If you have an older furnace, strange banging, clanking, and whistling sounds are no strangers to your home. However, if your furnace is relatively new, your unit should be almost completely silent while it operates. Either way, it is not a good sign when your heating unit produces strange sounds. But what is your furnace trying to say?

✔️ Booming: It could indicate the buildup of gas from a delay in the ignition.

✔️ Clicking: This is typically an indication of a faulty flame sensor or a problem between the ignition and the gas. This requires immediate
attention.

✔️ Squealing: Not unlike a car, squealing could indicate a faulty belt or a failing fan motor. Both fixes are usually fairly routine but do require a certified HVAC service technician.

✔️ Rattling: It can come from worn or broken components in the motor or fan. If the rattling worsens, you could be hearing the sound of a complete system failure.

✔️ Chirping: If you hear chirping and it's the beginning of the furnace season, wait a bit. If the chirping doesn't go away, you may need your fan belts replaced or some similar routine maintenance performed.

☎️ If you hear these noises, you should have your furnace inspected by our professional HVAC technicians!

💨 Our coldest months are upon us, which means many of you are doing your due diligence to cut down on costs. But in your efforts to save, you may stumble upon misinformation that leads you astray. We are here to help you avoid these common heating mistakes, so you’re not spending anything over what’s necessary:

1️⃣ If you think inflating the temperature will get you warmer quicker, it won’t. This will only make your heater work harder, thus costing you more money.

2️⃣ Cold air loves to creep in through the gaps in your windows and doors, and this puts a strain on your heating system. Don’t let precious and expensive warm air leave by installing draft stoppers or with weatherstripping.

3️⃣ You may not be feeling warm air to the effect that you want, so you turn to other sources of heat, such as your fireplace or space heater. We recommend you use them in conjunction with your heating system instead of relying on them thoroughly to warm your entire house. They can get expensive and are fire hazards.

4️⃣ It makes sense that you should close off doorways and vents to unused rooms, right? On the contrary, this puts extra pressure on your system and obstructs airflow. It’s best to leave them open to avoid a higher heating bill.

5️⃣ Allowing your furnace to run at all times can be a waste of money. There are opportunities where you can give it a break and get a break on your utility bill. Set your programmable thermostat on a schedule that runs at a lower temperature when everyone is out of the house or sleeping.

📞 By making sure you avoid these mistakes, you can ensure your heating system works efficiently and appropriately! At Heat & Air Direct, our experts are highly trained in all aspects of furnace inspection, repair, and installation. Schedule your next appointment with us online or by giving us a call at (704) 918-5421.

While you enjoy the benefits of your HVAC system at home, you may experience this issue at some point: water dripping from the return air duct. This means condensation is happening on your ductwork.

This is a problem that has been experienced by so many homeowners and it can be frustrating at times. The condensation appears as water drops that gather on the outside of your AC’s ducts and vent openings. In some extreme cases, one may notice pools of water on the floor or in other places around your home. If you’ve experienced this, don’t worry there’s a solution on how to stop condensation on air ducts.

1️⃣ Put Insulation Around Your Ductwork.
2️⃣ Check if The Insulation is Damaged and Repair it.
3️⃣ Ensure your HVAC Air Filters are Clean.

Do whatever it takes to prevent condensation from messing up your home. If you have any further questions, please contact us for quality and professional HVAC services!

🍂 Fall is approaching, and with it comes pumpkin spice lattes, cozy sweaters, and cooler weather. As you look forward to the upcoming season, now is the perfect time to consider knocking out some of those home improvement projects that you have been putting off due to the heat. One way to save money and improve the overall comfort of your home is to invest in energy-saving technology! Check out these three energy-saving tips for your home!

⚡ Use Energy-Efficient Appliances: Did you know that appliances account for about 13% of total home energy usage? Appliances add convenience to our life— after all, who wants to hand wash both their kids and their own laundry? We can optimize the way we use our technology by investing in energy-efficient models.

💡Optimize Use of Your Lighting: We use our lights every day, but what if we could illuminate our home while also reducing our energy usage? Try replacing your home’s five most frequently used lights with LED lights that use less energy (while still achieving the same amount of brightness).

📲 Upgrade to a Smart Thermostat: It can automatically determine and implement the best temperature settings for maximum energy efficiency. Access your smart thermostat from anywhere by using an app on your smartphone to check to see if the AC is running when nobody is home.

HVAC filters are a vital part of maintaining the health and integrity of both your system and yourself. These filters are the only thing that stands between you and potentially dangerous dust and air-borne pollutants that can damage your HVAC system or make you sick. If you are someone who regularly changes out your filter, then well done!

However, there are people who believe that simply removing a filter and shaking it out or using a vacuum on it will suffice when it comes to cleaning. Such assumptions are incorrect. Here we show you four things you should never do with your filters:

✅ Use the Wrong Type of Filter.
✅ Buy Only One Filter at a Time.
✅ Forget the Change-Out Date of Your Filter.
✅ Use a Poor Fitting Filter.

Responsible homeowners know to replace their HVAC system filters on schedule. But sometimes, “on schedule” just isn’t good enough. If you check your filter at replacement time and find that it’s completely covered in dust, hair, and other particles, you might start wondering what causes it to clog up prematurely.

Here are some of the typical reasons why a filter will clog faster than average:

→ Pet hair.
→ Extreme temperatures.
→ Your filter has a high MERV rating.
→ Dusty home.
