Trace levels of Southern Corn Rust have been found in Stafford County. K-State plant pathologist, Rodrigo Onofre, Ph.D., recommends considering hybrid susceptibility, severity of the disease and the crop's growth stage when applying fungicide.

Most fungicides labeled for Tar Spot and Gray Leaf Spot are effective for Southern Rust — applying fungicide to control the disease is not recommended unless it has been observed in the canopy. Onofre recommends not applying fungicide past the R3 growth stage.
