As we turn the corner into the last quarter of open water season here on LakeVermilion. Without a doubt it's one of the best times to be on the water. Colors are awsome and some of the best fishing is in front of us.

Just an update. I'm contacted regularly from clients about the fire situation here on Lake Vermilion and the area. Here on the lake we're fine, smoke has cleared for now? Hard work and good progress is being made on current fires. There's a lot of firefighting personnel, equipment and aircraft working the fires and available to attack any new starts. Fishing is good, businesses are open. This is a fluid situation we're in fire season, been moisture deficit. But don't change your plans.
Best fishing of the year is in front of us. Come up and enjoy this gem of a fisheries!

Just putting this out there..so if you or anyone you know has trips planned. We have multiple large fires in the BWCA and numerous others outside. Don't know where this came from, but just be cautious in the weeks and months to come if you see Tankers picking up on the lake

As we wrap up June..it's been a challenging end to it, fishing has been a roller-coaster. Best advice is keep everything in the mix, minnows, leeches and crawlers. Jigs and lindy rigs with all of the three food groups. Look around the edges of the rocks, go up on the wind blown mud flats. Slip bobber with leeches and crawlers on the rock humps. Throw jig and plastic along the shoreline where there's bugs hatching. Keep mobile, anyone who shares the boat with me knows I don't stay anywhere if we're not getting bit.
There's a lot of food available for them, crayfish are molting and the Mayfly hatch is sporadic, but I anticipate it will kick in the next week?
Mostly wishing everyone a Fun and Safe 4th of July. Plz be safe on the water, don't be distracted and be aware of other boaters.

Hope everyone had a good opener. Weather was challenging, wind like we had makes it tough. But I was able to get fish. The average size of the ones we kept were nice. Until we get the water to warm up, look for them deeper during the day. Jigs and minnows and slip sinker rigs are working. Be mobile, if you aren't marking fish or getting them to bite keep looking. Once you find active fish they seem cooperative. Fishing will improve in the next couple weeks.
With the cold water, stay safe. Wear your personal flotation device.

With the Minnesota general Fishing opener just around the corner here's a few tips.
Make sure you have new line on your reels. Check the rods for any fracture or chips out of the ceramic eyes.
In the boat make sure you have enough flotation devices for everyone and a throwable life cushion.
Make sure you have your Fishing license, it's a good idea to take a picture of it, just in case you forget it, seems like Noone forgets their phone.
Know the regulations, legal limit of fish and legal size. Remember in Minnesota daily limits and possession limit are the same.
