In the quiet hours of this morning, our first Operations crew packed up and headed out for the Navajo Nation.

This first crew of 11 won't begin work until Monday, but the drive alone is about 12 hours, and the crew has an orientation on Sunday. They will work the entire week to help bring power to households in the Navajo Nation that are still without it all these decades later.

The opportunity to participate in Light Up Navajo, along with other utilities, to build electric infrastructure, run lines, and change lives by powering homes, is nothing short of a blessing.

Help us wish our first crew well as they head out on this amazing journey across the Southwest to help light the way for the Navajo Nation! ❤️

ORIGINAL POST (1:21 p.m.): Heads up! FMFD personnel are on the scene of a gas leak at the 4000 block of Cross Timbers Road — just east of Bridlewood/Bruton Orand Boulevard — after a gas main was struck. At this time, both eastbound and westbound Cross Timbers Road are reduced to one lane while repairs are underway.

FMFD is monitoring air readings, and the leak is not currently considered a hazard to the surrounding area. If you have to travel this way, expect delays.

We are ecstatic to announce that a group of 22 of our Operations Employees will be heading to the Navajo Nation Reservation this June to participate in Light Up Navajo.

Light Up Navajo is a large-scale mutual aid initiative of the Navajo Tribal Utility Authority, in coordination with the American Public Power Association. In other words, our crews are helping bring electric service to a number of Navajo households for the very first time!

Our first crew will head out on Friday, May 29, and our second crew will head out on Friday, June 5, to relieve the first crew and pick up where they left off.

This will be our first time participating in Light Up Navajo. A project like this is so special because it means your local co-op is delivering a necessity to families, improving quality of life, living our core values, and creating a lasting, generational impact to Navajo families.

Follow along on the journey beginning June 2 on our Facebook and Instagram!

Electrical safety is essential. During Electrical Safety Month, we want to remind you how to stay safe around electricity.🔌

Taking simple precautions can prevent outages, fires, and costly damage.

⚡Dig safe - call 811 before you dig 16 in. or deeper.
⚡Stay away from downed power lines.
⚡Don't plug too many cords into a surge protector; it could overload the circuit and cause a fire.
⚡Never fly kites or drones near power lines.

This month is a great reminder not only for us but also for our Members and Customers to know how we stay safe in everything we do.
