We're proud to recognize Rylan Oglesbee as our Q3 Core Values Award Winner.

This quarter, Rylan earned the recognition of his teammates for the way he embodied all of EDGE’s core values by consistently approaching every challenge with a winning attitude, grit, and stepping up when the team needed him most.

Better known around EDGE as “RyRy the Drone Guy,” a title he's definitely earned, Rylan took on the Drone Pilot role this season with a positive attitude and a strong work ethic. Through long hours and challenging days, he remained focused and ready to get the job done.

As one teammate put it, "He showed the kind of perseverance and drive that inspires those around him, proving that when the pressure was on, he could be counted on to step up, push through, and get the job done.”

If there's one thing we can all learn from this rain, it's that we really have no control over what the weather or the market will bring. But we can appreciate a full pond, green grass in October, and enough moisture to potentially carry us into next spring.

Sure, some days in agriculture aren't much fun. But there isn't another job most of us would rather be doing.

And if this past year has taught us anything, it's that we can only control how we react to both. The weather will do what it wants. The market will too. What we can control is what we're paying attention to. What signals are you looking at from the market?

In September, our team headed to Omaha for a day of teamwork and a little friendly competition. The day included bowling, an escape room, and laser tag followed by an evening of teppanyaki and exploring the live music scene in the Old Market. We bet you can't guess who the best bowler was! 😉 Throughout the day, teams faced a variety of challenges, and one thing became clear: our team is competitive!

It was a great reminder of what makes this team special. The same drive, determination, and teamwork that showed up in every challenge are the qualities that help us move EDGE forward and strengthen our commitment to helping farmers succeed every day!

Today we’re celebrating 5 years of Cody Birt at EDGE! ⭐

As our Director of Agronomy, Cody plays a big role in leading our Agronomy team and helping us continue to move EDGE forward. He has a knack for numbers, thinks strategically, and is always looking at the bigger picture and where we can continue to get better.

Cody, we appreciate your loyalty, your work ethic, and the role you play on this team! Five years is a big milestone, and we’re thankful you’ve been on this journey with us.

Seeing corn sprout on the ear? Pay attention.

This is called vivipary, and we’re seeing it show up in corn right now. The kernel has enough moisture that it begins germinating before the ear is harvested.

The bigger concern is what can happen next. Sprouted corn can quickly develop mold, especially once it goes into storage. If you’re harvesting corn with vivipary, it needs to be handled differently. Higher dryer temperatures may be needed to kill the sprouted embryos and help prevent continued growth and mold in the bin.

Before you harvest or make decisions on affected acres, contact your crop insurance agent. Depending on the severity, there may be specific steps that need to happen before harvest or before the grain is moved.

The noise surrounding agriculture these days seems a lot more negative than positive. Whether it's on the radio, TV, or social media, it can really wear you down. But have we stopped to think about what we're doing about it?

Once this rain finally gives us a break and we're back in the combine, we should be thinking about what actions we can take to help protect the future of agriculture. There are very few people making the rules we have to play by, and even fewer people out there talking about what we actually do every day.

We need to be talking to our neighbors, our rural communities, and our representatives about the positive things we're doing to improve the land for the future. If we don't tell our story, someone else will tell it for us.

This month's newsletter dives deeper into why your actions matter and why it's important that we work together to tell agriculture's story.

This harvest, we're going to need a rally. It starts with each of us sharing what we're doing and the impact it's having. Agriculture has a great story to tell, and it's up to us to make sure people hear it!

Congratulations to Aaron Armstrong on two years at EDGE!

As one of our Agronomy Advisors, Aaron spends a lot more time on the road than he does in the office. You can usually find him with his headset in the middle of a conversation with a grower. He’s always willing to talk through a question, work through a plan, or just catch up.
