Warm summer nights are perfect for roasting marshmallows, sharing spooky ghost stories and reminiscing with loved ones — but a fun night around the fire can quickly become dangerous without proper safety protocols.

🔥 Make sure your fire pit is in an open area away from trees, buildings and power lines.
🔥 Keep a shovel and water close. In an emergency, use the water to quench the fire and the shovel to smother the flames with dirt.
🔥 Never leave a fire unattended. Pour water over live embers and turn the logs to make sure all sides of the wood have stopped burning.

At Clay County Electric, one of our 7 principles is Concern for Community—and that’s more than just words to us!!

A few months ago, we learned that the local book program serving children in Clay and Randolph counties was at risk of ending due to a lack of funding. We couldn’t stand by and watch that happen. We know the impact books have on young minds, and we believe every child deserves the opportunity to develop a love for reading!

That’s why we stepped up to help sponsor the program and keep books arriving in the hands of local children!

We are especially excited knowing that when those books arrive in mailboxes across our service territories, families will see the message: “Books provided by your Friends at Clay County Electric.” What a special reminder that your local cooperative is invested in the future of our children and committed to making a positive difference right here at home.

We want our members and communities to know that we are constantly looking for ways to give back. Whether it’s providing reliable electric service, supporting local schools and organizations, investing in youth programs, or helping meet needs when they come up, we’re committed to strengthening the communities we serve!

If you haven’t signed your child up yet, what are you waiting for? Take a few minutes to get them enrolled in the Imagination Library and then spend some time each night reading with those sweet kiddos. The memories you make and the love of reading you build will last a lifetime!!

Because when our communities thrive, we all thrive, together we are making a difference!! ❤️📚

Some summers change everything, even how you dry your laundry.

This season, we’re choosing Team Sunshine. ☀️ Skip the dryer and let laundry air dry instead. Hanging clothes outside or using a drying rack indoors can help lower energy use and reduce wear on your clothes.

Starting Monday, June 8, ARDOT will be closing Highway 231 north of Pocahontas for a culvert replacement project.

To help ensure the safety of the road crews, we will be operating the electric system in this area on one-shot protection during construction. This means that if a line is contacted or a fault occurs, power will automatically go off instead of attempting to restore itself.

While we hope no outages occur, there is a possibility of temporary outages during the project. If you do lose power, please report the outage so our crews can assess the situation and confirm the cause.

We simply want our members in the Ingram, Dalton, and surrounding areas to be aware of the potential for outages while this work is being completed.

Energy use adds up! Running multiple appliances at the same time can put extra strain on the electric grid during high-use periods. Spacing out large appliances like washers, dryers and dishwashers helps reduce peak demand and helps support a reliable supply of electricity.
